Top 5 Moments of Wade Barrett

He gave us some memorable moments

WWE’s recent set of releases had some surprise names in it. The most surprising was perhaps that of Wade Barrett. Barrett, who had everything that WWE looked for in a superstar, said that he is leaving WWE with mutual consent and also added that he was taking some time off from the Wrestling business.

Afterwards, Barrett also posted an emotional picture in his official social media accounts which showed him walking away sadly after dumping his wrestling gear. We clearly know that it was not an easy decision for him to make and as he is all set to take a break from the business, we are going to look back at some of the memorable moments that he gave us.

#5 Becoming the King

King Barrett

The King of the Ring tournament has a legendary status in the wrestling business. Some of the greatest names have been crowned king over the past years and it was the King of the Ring that kick started some exciting angles such as the rebel Steve Austin. Although the tournament lost its flair recently, winning it was still considered to be a great achievement.

Barrett did just that when he became the 20th King of the Ring winner. He defeated fellow Englishman Neville in the final of the tournament, which WWE wrapped up in the WWE network in a short span of time. The tournament did not live up to the expectations but Barrett got his crown which was a good thing.

#4 The NXT in-ring debut

Barrett made an impact in his debut itself

After spending some time on the developmental circuit of WWE, Florida Championship Wrestling, Barrett was finally able to make his main roster in-ring debut when he had a match with Daniel Bryan. The fact that Barrett got the win over an Indy darling like Daniel Bryan in his first match itself showed the faith that WWE had in him.

And if this was not enough, he was mentored by none other than Chris Jericho. Not many people have the luck to work with Jericho but if WWE entrusted Barrett with someone as legendary as Jericho, it once again underlined the fact that WWE was high on him. And making a debut like this was probably a proud moment for Barrett.

#3 The Bad News Barrett

He has some bad news

Wade Barrett took up a handful of gimmicks during his time in the WWE. The most entertaining one perhaps was the Bad News Barrett one. Barrett had a hiatus from the company due to visa issues and WWE needed a new gimmick for him upon his return. So WWE decided to come up with Bad News Barrett gimmick and it hit off perfectly.

The whole ‘I’m afraid I have some bad news for you’ catchphrase currently has a cult status in the wrestling business and it is used whenever something unexpected happens. The run was short-lived of course, but in the limited time, it did create a lot of buzz.

#2 First Intercontinental championship

The only title he won

Barrett is a superstar that had the caliber to be a world champion. Even if WWE weren’t ready to let him be the WWE champion he was good enough to be a World Heavyweight Champion before the belts got unified. But unfortunately, the only singles championship that Barrett had during his run in WWE is the Intercontinental Championship.

Barrett won the title on five separate occasions but as always the first one was the special one. Barrett won the first title back in May 2011 when he defeated Kofi Kingston. He then went on to have an 89-day reign before dropping it to Ezekiel Jackson. He won it again in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

#1 Nexus takes over

The debut of Nexus in the main roster was an iconic moment. Seven unknown guys came out of nowhere and laid down two of the most decorated names in the business to make a statement and announce their arrival. It was a poetic way to make a debut and although all seven superstars had their chance to shine, Barrett got some extra limelight for being the leader of the pack.

Being the one who had the ability to call the shots in a powerful stable was a spectacular push for Barrett and making a debut in such a way helped Barrett to show the world that he was there to take over rather than just be a face in the crowd.
