Will WWE ever construct a storyline for Divas Champion Paige?

Paige had one of the most amazing debuts- a feat only a few can claim in the WWE. She defeated AJ Lee in front of a robust post- Wrestlemania crowd. Since then she has almost consistently been featured on the main roster and defended her title in two consecutive pay-per-views. She has certainly been given a fair share of the spotlight which is something that many divas or divas champions have been left wanting. She certainly has had a lot of attention on her including on backstage and from the WWE audience. But one question still lingers in the air. Has she had a proper storyline so far?

Maybe the WWE is trying the wait and watch method. Maybe all these random matches will lead on to something. I mean, Paige has been having matches almost twice a week on Raw and Smackdown. And all of them come without a back story. Of the all the matches on the weekly shows, none of them has been for the championship. So why exactly is she made to compete in so many random matches?

Maybe the WWE is trying to show her gradual rise and improvement. You know, the angle that the all love and will try till it dies- the Great Underdog Story. She has been making miraculous comebacks in many of her matches after having her opponent get the best of her since the start. She suddenly comes back from the dead. It’s something that John Cena did for the most part of his second babyface turn and that’s when he gained his well-documented detractors. He sometimes still goes back to that mode which is all the more nausea inducing. But Paige is no John Cena because she actually comes from a wrestling family and knows how to wrestle more than she’s allowed to put out there in the ring.

Another possibility is that by having her compete with almost all the divas in the division and going on to defeat them gives her enough credibility to face AJ when she returns. That way, it all makes sense. AJ Lee claims that for most part of her reign, she has defeated all the divas and none of them are good enough to challenge her. She went on to win her Wrestlemania match against the entire division put together. She can claim, till the world ends, that she took on the entire division and none was good enough. Except Paige.

Paige came from NXT and with just one move took AJ’s title away. Her first match on the roster and she defeated the champion. Surely, AJ had never faced her before. And now when AJ comes back, she’ll be rambling on and on about how she took on the entire current Divas Division and that none came close to take the title away from her. That’s the moment when Paige can raise her voice to explain how she has been doing the same while AJ was away probably sulking. And to add to that, she’s even defeated AJ.

Seriously, have we had a tremendous Paige promo yet? Has Paige said anything much since her debut? Alicia Fox handled her feud with Paige, single-handedly. She was that good and reliable. Paige was doing great but all the continuous matches were making her reign monotonous. It was Alicia Fox who was more like a breath of fresh air.

Whenever AJ Lee returns, which might be this month or early next month, that’s when Paige will face her biggest challenge. If AJ Lee eventually decides to leave WWE, the arrival of Charlotte can be the next challenge for Paige but till then we will have to wait. We will definitely wait for AJ Lee to return and make a statement.
