When Kofi Kingston successfully pinned Daniel Bryan to win the WWE Title, my hands were on my head with my mouth agape while my eyes began to get wet. It was the moment almost everyone in the WWE Universe had been waiting for as Kofi Kingston finally lifted the WWE Title after 11 years in the company.

While most thought that he was going to win it, a part of them were in an ocean of uncertainty as WWE haven’t entirely listened to their fans in the last few years.

However, all those allegations can now be put to bed as the results of WrestleMania 35 have proven that WWE are now indeed listening to its fans.

In Kofi’s win, there were some lessons imparted to the world – and here are three things that we should learn from Kingston’s moment…

#3 Physical appearance does not matter

When Vince McMahon was consistently putting hurdles in Kingston’s way, Big E posted a video on social media claiming that people “like us” can only go so far. It – the kayfabe video – implied that WWE might not want a black champion.

There is also another allegation that WWE constantly face is that the company prefers Superstars who are big in size. And this might be true; after all, Brock Lesnar held the WWE Universal Title hostage for a long time.

However, by putting the title on Kingston, all those accusations have been put to bed by the WWE. No longer – at least for the time being – can anyone claim that the company has a preference towards something unjust as WWE and Kingston have shown that…

#2 Hard work and patience pays off

After making his debut at the end of 2007, Kofi Kingston has been a proper entertainer at the WWE. He was always the funny guy who made people laugh – and he still is – but the beast side of him was unleashed during a feud against Randy Orton in 2009.

However, nothing much came of it and there are numerous stories as to why he never got the push that he deserved at the time. We won’t go there today as that is a topic for another day.

After that, he was in the midcard – winning every title save the two big ones – for years when in 2014, he formed the New Day with Xavier Woods and Big E. This was a group meant to make the fans laugh – and they did just that as New Day became one of the best things about WWE.

And finally, after years of hard work, Kingston finally got the biggest gold at WrestleMania.

#1 Hope is the best of things

They say that with hard work and patience, luck starts favoring and that is what happened with Kofi Kingston. He might not have initially even been in a singles match at WrestleMania, let alone winning the biggest title the company has to offer.

Kingston’s fate smiled upon him when Ali lost his place at the Elimination Chamber due to an injury. Kingston was roped in as the replacement and he put out a performance to remember in the gauntlet match preceding the Chamber match, where, once again, he was phenomenal.

His superb performances put him over with the fans and, as a result, he now holds the WWE Title.

There might have been a time when Kingston fans gave up hope of him winning the WWE Title but, borrowing a quote from The Shawshank Redemption, “Remember, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.”
