WWE 2013 Rewind: Top 10 Raw moments that could have been special

While the WWE saw a flurry of great matches this year, it also saw some typical occurrences- like not being able to build on the momentum gained by some superstars. It is not shocking that the WWE failed to capitalize on some great possibilities. Here is a list of moments that could have been great but were not.

10. The Miz turns heel or not?

There had been speculation for quite sometime that the Miz might be turning heel. He more or less turned heel when he refused take Koi Kingston’s tag during a tag team match. Even though this was a classic heel move, in the coming weeks his character turn was not particularly acknowledged by the WWE creative team as there were no heel promos or particularly heel tactics pulled by the Miz. Since the he has been having matches with Kingston over quite a meaningless thing at this point of time.

9. Tyson Kidd’s return

Sidelined by a serious injury, Tyson Kidd’s only mention in the WWE post the injury came after CM Punk gave him a shout-out, calling him a ‘workhorse’- which kind of did resonate with the hardcore fans as he is one of the most underutilized stars on the roster. He made his return on Raw in a tag match against Summer Rae and Fandango with a Total Divas storyline lurking behind concerning the proximity between his wife Natalya and Fandango. This undoubtedly turned out to be meaningless.

8. The Wyatt Family kidnap Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan and CM Punk came together to form one of the most popular team in the WWE to counter the Wyatts and in the course of this, the family kidnapped Bryan. This was quite bizarre and this deserved a follow on but instead the WWE had Bryan competing in a match the very next week with the kidnapping getting no amount of attention or meaning.

7. Ryback and Paul Heyman

ryback

Not that this was any hardcore fans dream, but the company has tried just about everything to get Ryback over with the fans and failing to capitalize every time. But this alliance seemed like it could go somewhere. Atleast Ryback had some personality in front of Axel, who was deprived of any characteristic. But this too ended up half eaten and now Ryback seems to be on a losing streak.

6. Dolph Ziggler’s title run

dolph ziggler

Okay, okay. So Dolph Ziggler might be the unluckiest World Heavyweight Champion. He’s gone from giving quality potential main event matches to matches where he is a jobber or simply those matches are over in a splitsecond. He had a concussion but came back to take horrific stiff looking shots to the head by Del Rio in a double turn at Payback in Chicago. He lost the title and since has lost his momentum too. Shame on you, WWE creative!

5. Fandango

The crowd on the Raw that followed Wrestlemania made Fandango seem like a rising star. He seemed like he was the next Daniel Bryan and to his credit it is really difficult to carry this gimmick. He seemed perfect with his little antics which seemed awesome. The way he insisted his name to be pronounced was one of them. But the WWE creative struck again and made sure that they sucked at their job and hence Fandango’s gimmick is now nowhere near that fateful night after WM 29.

4. The championships

Well, yes, a championship does not make superstars. A superstar makes a championship worth fighting for and who make the superstar? The superstar himself with much worthy help by the creative and management team. The storylines for the Intercontinental, U.S and World Heavyweight titles were underwhelming for almost the entire year.

3. Vince McMahon’s impending return

Though, it would have been highly awesome if he had made a babyface return, but it seemed apt for him to return at TLC to congratulate Randy Orton for his massive accomplishment. But McMahoin deserves something grand so this return was just not enough.

2. Damien Sandow cashes in

This has to be the most disappointing decision that the WWE made to put over SuperCena. Damein Sandow has always been good at whatever he does- be it a brilliant heel move or a ridiculous one. But instead of pushing this talented superstar they decided to use him as a stepping stone for Cena. And now he will playing Bad Santa. From Money in the Bank winner to Bad Santa is quite a demotion.\

1. CM Punk’s championship reign

It is one of the greatest and relevant title reigns of all time but CM Punk was made to lose to the Rock. The Rock, of all people? The Rock did not make the title relevant. Punk made it special. If a young, up and coming superstar had beaten Punk, he would have gotten a tremendous career momentum but the WWE decided a very underwhelming wrestler like Mr. Dwayne Johnson to win it.
