5 Reasons why Roman Reigns should win at Money In The Bank

Is Roman Reigns ready for the spotlight?

After a poor reception of the decision to have Roman Reigns win the Royal Rumble and main event WrestleMania, one would think that WWE would be gambling yet again should they allow Roman Reigns to stand tall atop the ladder and grasp the Money In The Bank briefcase on June 14, 2015 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. However, all things considered, Reigns looks to be the right man to win the match.

5. WWE has to gamble with Reigns

WWE fans have to move on from the idea of Reigns not being ready

Although the one preferred to win in these situations is always a heel, sometimes, babyfaces are entitled to a victory, evident with John Cena and Daniel Bryan. That being said, there is often a heel turn associated with the cash-in, such as Bryan himself and also Randy Orton in 2013.

Face characters aren’t the kind that try to pounce upon when the enemy is weak and Reigns, as illustrated on Raw last Monday, is quite the opposite. So, one would have to consider a Reigns heel turn on the horizon, which is another gamble for the WWE. However, one cannot help but note that anything involving Roman Reigns now is a hit-or-miss scenario, because the internet especially has been highly critical of the Samoan Superman ever since The Shield split up just over a year ago.

4. Nobody else in the match really has a reason to win

Left to right: Ziggler, Neville, Reigns, Orton, Kingston and Sheamus

The other contestants in this match have no real reason to win it which gives us fans another reason to criticise WWE and it’s booking decisions. Orton has been champion numerous times, Ziggler has made it close to the top only to be let down, Kane (spoiler from SmackDown) has no reason to even be in this match, and Kingston is in the mix only so that there could be a few big spots worked off him.

The only slightly worthy competitors, other than Reigns, are Sheamus, who would benefit from a heel run with the gold, and Neville, who is far too early in his career to be winning anything this big. Roman Reigns seems like the right person to win.

3. Even if it goes wrong, WWE will protect Reigns

WWE will not make the same mistake it made with Del Rio

Only once in the past has the Royal Rumble and Money In The Bank briefcase been won by the same person in one year, and that was in 2011, when Alberto Del Rio won the biggest Rumble in history and also the Raw ladder match for the WWE Championship contract.

Del Rio went on to become a two-time WWE Champion and also a World Heavyweight Champion but then his career dropped and he was eventually released for assaulting a backstage employee who allegedly had directed racist comments towards the former superstar.

Reigns’ career will likely end up in a better place if he wins the briefcase. The problem with Del Rio’s time was that CM Punk had risen above all expectations and WWE had to invest on his star power, leaving Del Rio out of the equation.

The same mistake won’t be made with Reigns, however, because he has been lingering around the main event for a while now and has been on the heels of the top feuds in the company.

2. Reigns needs his own direction

Big Show vs Roman Reigns feud after Wrestlemania was easily a forgettable angle

After WrestleMania, Roman Reigns faced The Big Show at Extreme Rules, was a part of the Fatal Four Way main event at Payback, and since, has been almost playing the role of Dean Ambrose’s manager.

He needs something that he can work with on his own and winning this match is the best way for him to prove himself. Take a look at how things panned out for last year’s briefcase winner Seth Rollins. It gave WWE the time to build his status as a heel and establish himself in the main event scene, achieving unbelievable stardom in the process. Things could work out for Reigns in the same manner if he was to win.

1. The potential cash-in

Could history repeat itself?

Imagining a situation where he cashes in is actually quite simple. It’s obvious that Brock Lesnar will be back with a vengeance and he will face Seth Rollins at SummerSlam for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Being Brock Lesnar, the regular scenario would be to destroy Rollins and win back the title in a dominating fashion, one that he was never pinned to lose. Then, the man who was pinned at WrestleMania, Roman Reigns, comes down to the ring and takes advantage of the situation, likely turning heel, similar to what Rollins did at WrestleMania, convert the match into a Triple Threat by cashing in Money In The Bank, momentarily taking Lesnar out of the ring and pinning Rollins for the victory.

Lesnar’s reputation remains protected as he isn’t pinned. A great way to keep Lesnar away from regaining the gold and in turn yields a great moment when Rollins loses his title the same way he won it. Plus, Roman Reigns wins the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at what isn’t the grandest event of the year. Everybody wins.
