A recent report stated that NJPW are interested in bringing back Shinsuke Nakamura to the promotion, as his contract is set to expire in January 2019.

During an interview with Sky Sports, Nakamura said that moving to the US was a "long-term thing" for him and a big decision for his family. He said that NJPW haven't contacted him and that he will stay with the WWE depending on the money offered to him.

Recent reports have stated that Nakamura, along with AJ Styles and the duo of Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows have contracts expiring in January 2019; all four wrestlers moved to the WWE in 2016 and signed three-year deals.
