There are a number of different outcomes that could happen this weekend at Extreme Rules

Drew McIntyre defends his WWE Championship against his former friend Dolph Ziggler this weekend as part of The Horror Show at Extreme Rules.

There was a time when McIntyre and Ziggler were on the same page and were chasing down The Shield, but the gloves will be coming off this weekend in a match where the stipulation is yet to be revealed.

Ziggler has McIntyre on the backfoot at present since it appears that he's waiting until the day of the show to make an announcement regarding the stipulation. That being said, the WWE Champion has already overcome the threat of Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, and Bobby Lashley at Backlash, so it's likely that he can find a way past Ziggler as well.

That being said, nothing is ever a certainty in WWE so here are just five finishes that could potentially happen on Sunday night.

#5. Dolph Ziggler becomes WWE Champion

Let's be honest, we can all speculate but the only person who knows what Dolph Ziggler is going to announce on Sunday night is the man himself. If Ziggler is a smart man then he will choose a stipulation that gives him the biggest advantage and the best chance of climbing to the top of the WWE mountain.

Drew McIntyre is a force to be reckoned with, but no one knows that better than Ziggler and he could use that against him this weekend.

Ziggler chose the perfect time to cash in his Money in the Bank contract and he will choose the perfect stipulation for this weekend's match, so it's hard to count him out. If Ziggler chooses a decent stipulation then we could be looking at the new WWE Champion following Extreme Rules.

#4. Robert Roode returns to help Dolph Ziggler

Robert Roode was written out of all of his storylines with Dolph Ziggler a few months ago since the former NXT star was unable to make it to WWE's Performance Center following the travel ban.

Roode and The Singh Brothers were the main stars who were affected by the ban since they were stuck in Canada and unable to fly out to WWE's facility.

COVID-19 restrictions seem to be easing off all over the United States at present, even though Florida looks as though it was recently hit quite hard by the virus. This means that Robert Roode may be able to make the trip to Florida to be part of Extreme Rules this weekend.

The stipulation to this match is currently unknown, but what is known is that Ziggler could opt to have a no-DQ match which would allow interference.

Robert Roode could then come in and hope that the numbers game could be enough to dethrone the current WWE Champion and crown a new king of the WWE empire.

#3. Match ends in a disqualification

If Dolph Ziggler chooses a straight forward match at WWE Extreme Rules with an added twist, then it's easy to see the match ending via disqualification since Ziggler is known to have that side to him.

At the same time, there is nothing stopping Ziggler from choosing a match that allows the title to change hands on a disqualification.

Whilst this would then allow him to push Drew McIntyre to the limit, it would also allow him to call in Robert Roode. Remember, if Roode attacks Ziggler then it's a DQ in favor of The Showoff and he could then become WWE Champion.

This all depends on the chosen stipulation after all. If this was just a straight forward match for the WWE Championship that ended via DQ, then it would mean that these two men could square off again in the near future.

It could be an interesting match, but as already noted with the WWE Championship on the line, the stipualtion now needs to be one that the company has never done before.

#2. Drew McIntyre retains the WWE Championship

Drew McIntyre has already proved his worth numerous times in matches against Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley, and even The Big Show. The Scottish star is worthy of the WWE Championship and it's easy to see him being able to overcome any kind of stipulation that Dolph Ziggler chooses on Sunday night.

Extreme Rules is already littered with gimmick matches and the "eye for an eye" match is already the strangest of them all. But, that doesn't mean that Ziggler's stipulation won't be one that could change his fate.

The Showoff knows what it takes to be World Champion and he knows McIntyre's weaknesses because he was once close to him. McIntyre will have already prepared for all of this and will hopefully be able to send Ziggler packing back to SmackDown, or at least to the back of the line.

McIntyre has been pushed as the face of the company for a reason and if the stipulation that Ziggler chooses makes the WWE Champion an underdog, then it makes for a much better story.

#1. Brock Lesnar sends a message

Brock Lesnar hasn't been seen since he was defeated by Drew McIntyre back at WrestleMania in April. Reports suggest that the former WWE Champion has been sitting it out, whilst the pandemic has taken hold and will return with WWE's audience.

SummerSlam was originally set to be the place that Lesnar was set to return and look for that rematch against McIntyre, but this now won't be the case since SummerSlam will also emanate from The Performance Center with no fans.

This doesn't mean that Brock Lesnar can't send a message to Drew McIntyre this weekend? What if The Beast's music plays as a distraction and Paul Heyman then makes his way out to the ring?

It wouldn't cost WWE any money to include Lesnar in the storyline and to remind the WWE Universe that the former Champion still has unfinished business with the Scottish star.

The distraction wouldn't serve to cost McIntyre the title, but it could put him on notice so that he knows that regardless of whoever is next, Brock Lesnar will be coming after.
