WWE: Extreme Rules – Superstar Ratings

If you went through my Extreme Rules review, I had given the given the show a 3 out of 5, with one or two good matches. The WWE title match was a major disappointment, with zero psychology and very bad booking. In this article, I look back at the superstars’ performances and rate them on a scale of 5, depending upon their match, their story telling and all-round performance. Without further ado, let us get down to business.

The Miz

After filming for the Marine 3, Miz is slated to go up the ladder once again. At Extreme Rules, he faced Cody Rhodes during the pre show and won the match. Nothing special to say; the bout went for 5 minutes and made way to the main show.

Cody Rhodes

Here’s one performer who deserves a main event spot. Cody Rhodes had a fantastic run as the WWE Intercontinental Champion, where he brought back the legacy of the great title and showed just why he’s the son of the legendary Dusty Rhodes. But now, he doesn’t find a place on the main card! He lost his match to The Miz, which is pretty sad.

Chris Jericho

Jericho faced Fandango in a WrestleMania rematch, and it was good to see Jericho being so aggressive. He hasn’t been that way since his feud with Shawn Michaels years ago. Jericho got his retribution by pinning Fandango and getting the pin fall victory.

Fandango

Fandango received his first pin fall loss since his debut, as he lost to Chris Jericho. Fandango has been booked poorly since his popularity grew with the fans, which seems to have already faded. It isn’t hard to book a heel, but the creative is doing a really bad job with that.

Kofi Kingston

Kofi defended the WWE United States championship at Extreme Rules as he went up against Dean Ambrose. He had a good match with some good near-falls and fast-paced action. It helped Kofi that he was facing one of the best talents in the WWE. When Kofi won the US title from Cesaro, it didn’t make much sense, but it does now considering that the WWE were already planning to put the US title on Ambrose.

Dean Ambrose

The new United States champion had a good outing against one of the more athletic superstars in the WWE. Ambrose is the future, make no mistake about it. I made a bold statement that within the next year, we will be seeing him as the WWE Champion. That’s how talented he is, and he had a good match at Extreme Rules, which saw him become the new WWE United States champion.

Sheamus

Sheamus faced Henry in a strap match at Extreme Rules, and the match was okay considering the stipulations and the participants. Sheamus won the match after he delivered a Brogue Kick which enabled him to touch all the four corners of the ring.

Mark Henry

It is being rumoured that Henry will be out of action for a while, and will come back as a babyface. Although I question that judgment, Henry had an okay match with Sheamus at Extreme Rules, which saw the Celtic Warrior getting his revenge over the Silverback. It’ll be interesting to see if Henry remains a heel and continues his feud with Sheamus after he comes back.

Alberto Del Rio

ADR faced Jack Swagger for the number 1 contender spot at Extreme Rules in an “I Quit” match. Although these competitors had a great match on live TV some time ago, their PPV matches aren’t of the same calibre. The match saw a false finish, but was restarted and ADR picked up the victory with the cross armbreaker, which forced Swagger to utter the words “I Quit”.

Jack Swagger

Swagger faced ADR in an “I Quit” match, and delivered a good bout, but not as good as the one they had on live TV. The match was similar to the one they had at WrestleMania. Swagger finally gave up to the cross armbreaker after trying to hold on. A good bout nonetheless.

The Shield (Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns)

The Shield faced Team Hell No for the WWE tag team titles in a Tornado tag team match, and won their first major title on the main roster. Rollins and Reigns are two of the most talented individuals, and now can boast about being the top team in the company. It’ll be interesting to see how things go from here.

Team Hell No (Kane and Daniel Bryan)

Kane and Daniel Bryan have been the tag team champs for a long time, but all that ended at Extreme Rules when they lost to The Shield. Bryan needs to get back to the singles division and challenge for the WWE title. I hope that’s what is in store for the vegan wrestling machine.

Big Show

Big Show faced Orton in Orton’s hometown of St. Louis at Extreme Rules. I don’t know where Show is going, but it has been a downhill slide for him ever since he lost the World Heavyweight title. He had a good match with Orton, and we have to wait and see where Show goes from here.

Randy Orton

Orton defeated Show in his hometown at Extreme Rules, and got the pop of the night. He ended things off with a punt, which we haven’t seen him use in the WWE for a long time, and so it was a refreshing change. Orton needs to turn heel and get back in the title hunt, which I think will happen sooner rather than later.

Ryback

Ryback faced John Cena for the WWE title in a Last Man Standing match at Extreme Rules, which ended in a No Contest! Last Man Standing matches are usually done to have a decisive winner, but this time the WWE creative outdid themselves in booking one of the most ludicrous matches in the past year! The match was okay at best, as both the participants just went move to move without any psychology in the match. Ryback will face Cena in an Ambulance match next month, and we sure hope that doesn’t end with both the participants ending up in the ambulance, and subsequently, in another no contest.

John Cena

The WWE champion once again miraculously fought off his leg injury as he faced Ryback past Sunday. The way Cena no–sold something that was the biggest reason behind the Last Man Standing match made the match all the more redundant, and the outcome of the match just showed how clueless the writers are about booking a match. A forgettable encounter which should have been much better.

Triple H

Hunter faced Brock Lesnar inside a steel cage at Extreme Rules, and even though he ended up on the losing end, Triple H looked like a million bucks, which, to Lesnar’s misery, made him look weak. The booking was terrible for the last two matches, as this bout should have made Lesnar look like the legitimate bad guy that he is supposed to be! The match itself was good, but the way it went about left a bad taste in my mouth.

Brock Lesnar

If Cena watched Lesnar’s match, he would understand a thing or two about selling an injury. Lesnar arguably sold his leg injury as if it was legitimately broken! And although that made him look vulnerable and weak, it is something that shouldn’t be done when you’re billing a guy as a monster and a legitimate bad guy. I absolutely love Brock, and he proved once again why he was the youngest WWE Champion in history.
