WWE Hell in a Cell: 5 Theories why Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross lost the Women's Tag Team Titles

Asuka and Kairi Sane are your new Tag Team Champions
Asuka and Kairi Sane are your new Tag Team Champions

I write this as we are midway through Hell in a Cell. The Kabuki Warriors challenged Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross for the Women's Tag Team Championships at the pay-per-view, and in what many considered a surprise, they came out on top.

So, what could possibly be the reason for this title switch, you ask? I have a bunch of theories and I invite you guys to leave your comments in the section below as well.

Do you guys think that it was a wise move to put the titles around the waists of Asuka and Kairi Sane by WWE? Do you think that Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross had been good representatives for the tag team division?

While this list is entirely speculative, I think these are the reasons why the title change happened...

#5 Maybe they get split up during the draft

As much as we talk about the Women's Evolution and how far they have come, the fact of the matter is that there are only a few women who are 'over' in the truest sense. Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss are and I don't know if having them on the same brand will make sense, in the long run. Now that we know that Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch are the two Champions, they'll need strong contenders to go up against them in the following weeks.

Both Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross fit this bill, because having someone like Ember Moon in a title match on pay-per-view may be too premature. I mean WWE has tried this already and the crowd was dead for the contest, to everyone's dismay.

So when the draft happens, maybe the women are split up, which wouldn't have been possible if they were Champions. Now it can!

#4 To bring Paige back to TV

Even though she's still a young woman, Paige is one of those individuals who's already considered to be one of the greatest female superstars of all time. Because of the personal problems that she'd facedm and then, unfortunately, thanks to an accidental move during a match, Paige's career came to an end long before it ideally should have. But then she was brought back as the General Manager of SmackDown Live.

When that stint came to an end, Paige found a new role for herself as the manager for Asuka and Kairi Sane. But because neither woman would get screen time every week, she would not get either, by association. Paige is someone that the audience still likes and I'm certain that the WWE management loves her too.

If nothing else, she can bring new eyes to the product owing to her life being chronicled in a movie.

#3 For Asuka to showcase her new move - The Green Mist

'The Mist' is a move that has been used by many Japanese Superstars in the past, most notably Tajiri. In fact, Rosemary from Impact Wrestling still uses the move as a part of her arsenal, on a regular basis.

Su Yung is yet another Impact Wrestling Superstar who's used the move in recent times, and it was high time that someone in WWE did it as well, at this point. One must also note that Su Yung used the Mandible Claw long before The Fiend adopted it.

In the tradition of the Great Kabuki and others like him, The Kabuki Warriors will make this move as a part of their arsenal. Now that Asuka's streak has been broken, she has lost a lot of her aura and this is a way to make her interesting once again.

Do you think people using the move should be disqualified?

#2 Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross had pretty much run through the whole division

Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross took on Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville and came out on top. The also took out The IIconics in the past and there was seemingly no tag team left in the division to take them on. I mean you could make a case for Sasha Banks and Bayley, but they just seem like they're a rung above these titles.

Some may argue that Carmella and Charlotte Flair would make good opponents for Bliss and Nikki Cross. But honestly speaking, it was an odd pairing and I doubt Carmella is someone who will be stepping out of the 24/7 Championship picture anytime soon. As gifted as she is, she's found her footing in the 24/7 Championship picture as a comedy act with R-Truth.

The Kabuki Warriors can now wrestle a whole bunch of heel opponents. The IIconics, for example, could step into the title picture again.

#1 Bliss vs. Cross is the money match for now

Long before they got on the same page, it seemed like Alexa Bliss was using Nikki Cross to meet her heelish ends. But then they would reconcile their differences and remember that they had a common goal in becoming the Tag Team Champions.

Alexa Bliss is someone who thrives as a heel and while she can even work as a babyface, Nikki Cross is clearly the babyface of the group. Alexa Bliss is gorgeous, she has been pushed to the moon, she is someone who is not a favorite of the 'smart fans', and she can get the crowd to boo her at a moment's notice.

Nikki Cross would be elevated if she enters into a non-title feud with Alexa Bliss. There's a storyline in place already and both women could greatly benefit from the same.
