WWE Monday Night Raw: 11 August, 2014 - Top 5 moments of the week

No matter how WWE brings out their flagship show, there will always be some flaws at one point or other on the three hour stretched Monday Night Raw. The edition from Portland proved to be no different as it failed to address the situation of the tag team and United States championships. Apart from that, the build ups for the matches at SummerSlam were well plotted by the company as many had more than one segment to attract the fans. Alberto Del Rios firing was nowhere to be seen in terms ofimpact on the superstars as everyone strolled through Raw just like every other show. There were some moments to cherish in the future, so here is a look at those like always.

#5 Stephanie settling the score

Two weeks back, Stephanie had handcuffs in her hand thanks to Brie Bella and this time it was Stephanie who had the last laugh.

In typical McMahon fashion, she took the game to Brie with a cunning plot. She was also at her best while Brie was carried away and has given Brie more reasons to be vengeful in their match at SummerSlam.

The company dragging in the name of Daniel Bryan was expected to happen at some point and when it happened it turned out to be impactful than expected. Bryan making a possible appearance on SummerSlam cannot be ruled out after this segment and hopefully Brie would be back in time for the show from her legal troubles.

#4 Its 2-0 for Slater

Last week, one of WWE’s most appreciated jobbers, Heath Slater came out victorious against Mr. Money in the Bank, Seth Rollins. Many saw this as the company’s idea of a joke to add more heat to the Ambrose – Rollins feud but the win that Slater got this week suggested otherwise.

Just like the last outing, the win for the one man band came thanks to a distraction but it doesn’t matter how he wins if he wins. If the company is going to let Slater be in the mix of every high profile feud in the future, he might end up having a streak like what Goldberg had in WCW.

To make matters more ridiculous, he might be put into the Lesnar – Cena feud at one point and might even beat any of the two. After all, it’s a business where anything happens.

#3 Partys over Grandpa

Brock Lesnar might be not known for talking too much but it was him that delivered one of the most entertaining one liners of the night.

He was often criticized for hiding behind Heyman at times but when he snatched the microphone from his manager to have a word with Hulk Hogan, it was simply awesome.

Lesnar standing just centimeters from Hogan was good enough to make the fans drool. Teasing Hogan on his birthday and almost threating all the legends in the ring gave the beast more heat ahead of SummerSlam.

Though Cena came down to make sure that nothing happened, it was Lesnar who stole the whole show and stood tall with the way he oozed arrogance and confidence in front of all those hall of famers.

#2 Face to Face

Bray Wyatt and Chris Jericho, two of the most decorated microphone performers in professional wrestling, sitting face to face and simply talking.

How can it be more poetic? To be frank it really can’t.

It was the best decision made by the company to skip the regular attacking angle that Bray delivers and let both the parties do what they do best, talk. There were a lot of takeaways from the conversation that they had.

Bray was simply at his best while Jericho stepped in with some used and some new techniques to woo the crowd. INew life was breathed into a feud that was dying and all that is to be done now is a good match between the two at SummerSlam.

#1 Surprise present for Rollins

Ambrose and Rollins have been at it ever since the Shield broke up and the creative team has tested some weird combinations with the duo. The latest came this week on Raw when Ambrose came out of a gift to chase Rollins away.

Though the fans expected to see Ambrose come out after the match between Rollins and Rob Van Dam, no one would’ve expected Hulk Hogan’s birthday being a part of it. The crowed popped to the core when the lunatic fringe tore down the wrap to get his hands on Rollins and gave us a glimpse of what we could see on Sunday.

It was quite arguably the most memorable moment of the week and is sure to be played again and again in the years to come when these two will be established as regular main eventers.
