What’s the story?

Video footage circulating the interwebs shows Daniel Bryan running the ropes with Sami Zayn during the dark match main event following SmackDown Live.

Apparently, Bryan and Zayn ran the ropes for quite some time before Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura snuck into the ring in order to attack Zayn and pick up the victory. Fans can watch the video below—

In case you didn’t know…

Daniel Bryan is loved and respected by professional wrestling fans and experts the world over and was considered to be one of the very best in the business until he had to retire last year owing to concussion issues.

Nevertheless, Bryan has time and again stated that his doctors have cleared him, however, owing to the nature of brain damage he’s suspected to have sustained and multiple concussions suffered by him in the past, the WWE’s medical team finds him unfit to compete.

The heart of the matter

As we’d previously reported, SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan served as the ‘Special Guest Referee’ for the dark match main event that transpired after this week’s tapings of SmackDown Live.

WWE Champion AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura & Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn & Jinder Mahal served as the dark match main event for the fans in Chicago—a match during which Daniel Bryan started running the ropes while the competitors were slugging it out outside the ring.

Bryan received a huge pop from the fans in attendance and was joined by Sami Zayn who proceeded to run the ropes with Bryan. However, Randy Orton took advantage of a distracted Zayn; hitting the latter with an RKO Outta’ Nowhere, following which Shinsuke Nakamura attacked Zayn with a Kinshasa for the pinfall victory.

What’s next?

Daniel Bryan’s current WWE contract runs out in the latter half of 2018, and he’s previously stated that should the WWE not allow him to make an in-ring return in 2018, he’d probably leave the promotion and likely return to ROH (Ring Of Honor).

Author’s take

Nostalgia never quite ceases to amaze. Well, Daniel Bryan doesn’t seem to have lost a step, does he?

Honestly speaking, it’d be awesome to see Bryan return to the ring in the WWE, however, if they don’t clear him, who’s to say that he won’t turn to THIS promotion against a certain Bullet Club ‘elite’.
