This week’s WWE Raw (9th May 2016) comes after an explosive main event that set the SmackDown stage on fire. Shane and Stephanie’s weird co-existance has made WWE more interesting and moreover WWE releasing some of the fan favorites has not sit well with a lot of fans. This week’s RAW is under a huge pressure to deliver. Will it deliver?
The IC Title scene is pretty hot but not as hot as the main event scene. The main event scene is practically blazing right now and both AJ and Roman will look to carry some momentum going into Extreme Rules. Similarly, the feud between Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho has reached a new level with the demise of Mitch, Ambrose’s best friend, at the hands of Jericho on last week’s Raw.
The Women’s Championship is also buzzing with the controversial finish at Payback. Natalya and Charlotte will be meeting one another ins a submission match at Extreme Rules. The problem for Charlotte is that she won’t have her dad Ric Flair by the ringside for this match. The US Title scene is also becoming interesting and the feud between Baron Corbin and Ziggler will attain new level as they will go one on one tonight.
The only lackluster buildup has been to the Tag Team Championship between New Day and The Vaudevillains and it will be interesting to see how WWE uses Big Cass as there were rumours of WWE having big plans regarding him.
Here’s a look at the video highlights of WWE Raw 9th May 2016 Full Show:
Jerichos opens the show with the Highlight Reel
The Highlight Reel returned to Raw this week as Jericho opened the show with his talk show. His guest was none other than the shattered remain of Mitch. Jericho was his usual heel self here as he mocked Dean Ambrose and the fans for feeling sympathy for Mitch instead of talking about him. He claims that he has sidelined Ambrose with and injury and mocks the fan for relating to him and Mitch
Big Cass interruptedd him and called him out for a match. Jericho was really insulted and he teased a fight. But Jericho walked away in the last moment and this prompted Big Cass to call him as S-A-W-F-T. Jericho rushed to the ring but was caught by a big boot to the face.
Backstage Segment: Stephanie makes the main event of the show
Jericho meets Stephanie backstage and tries to suck up to her. He asks her to do something about the disrespect this new era is showing towards him and tries to drive a wedge between her and Shane. Stephanie makes the main event for the night. She informs Big Cass will be facing Jericho in the main event and warns him to not ever to try a wedge between her and Shane.
It looks like Big Cass made it big. He is a main event player now and one wonders what it means to Enzo Amore who is sidelined with an injury.
Baron Corbin defeats Dolph Ziggler
Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler faced each other in the opening match of the night. Ziggler tried to counter Corbin’s agressiveness with ahis experience. He played possum and tried to suck in Corbin and it almost succeeded. But, Corbin prevailed to get a win over Ziggler.
Corbin took control of the match early with his power and strarted punishing Ziggler. Ziggler fought back with his speed and took control of the match momentarily, but Corbin just manhandled Ziggler outright. Ziggler sucks in Corbin by playing possum and delivered a Famouser, but Corbin kicked out at two.
Ziggler went for the Zig Zag but Corbbin held on to the rope and delivered a Deep Six Slam out of nowhere. Ziggler kicked out and tried to rally but Corbin caught him with End of Days out of nowhere to pick up the win. Corbin looked agressive and arrogant all through the match.
Backstage Segment: Shane refuses Charlotte and Ric Flair’s request
Charlotte and Ric Flair met Shane backstage and sweet talked him. Charlotte requested Shane to lift the ban of Ric Flair’s pressence at ringside on Extreme Rules. Shane refused and added that Ric Flair will be banned from tonight’s match too. This got Ric riled up and Charlotte prevented him from getting into Shane’s face.
Backstage Segment: The Club is formed
Styles said that last week he took the high road and got ended up powerbombed through table. Reigns didn’t take it and so he won’t do it again. If an opportunity presents, he will definitely take out Reigns and will win the title all by himself on Extreme Rules. He told for now The Club is formed and Gallows, Anderson and Styles do the Klick.
R-Truth defeats Fandango
The ongoing formation of Golden Truth once again took the stage as R-Truth went one on one with Fandango. As usual Tyler Breeze and Goldust were at ringside. The match was more shenanigans than actual wrestling once again. R-Truth picked up a quick win.
The crowd is hot for Golden Truth and WWE should go ahead and capitalize with that. WWE is prolonging this storyline and this is becoming more annoying day by day.
Backstage Segment: Shane and Stephanie announce a qualifying match for the IC Championship
Owens, Cesaro and Miz badger Shane and Stephanie to make a decision about the Ic Championship. Owens and Cesaro both lay a claim for the championship title shot. Stephanie shuts them up and announces a Triple Threat match for the IC Championship at Extreme Rules. Miz objects to it as he can lose the title without being pinned.
Zayn walks in and he too objects to it. He asks Shane and Stephanie a chance to be in the title picture. Shane and Stephanie agree to it and if Zayn wins his match with The Miz tonight, then the IC Championship bout would be a Fatal 4 Way match. Everyone looks unhappy about it, especially Owens.
Paige defeats Charlotte in a non-title match
Charlotte and Paige square off as Natalya watches the match from commentators area. Paige takes the control of the match early, but soon Charlotte retaliates and sends Paige to the apron. She mocks Paige by calling out that it is her house. Paige takes out Charlotte and sends her crashing to the ringside with a boot. She mocks Charlotte by doing a Ric Flair Strut.
Soon the match beins in earnest and Charlotte takes control with some underhanded tactics. She dominates the match for some time before Paige rallies back and delivers a sickening knee. The action is back and forth from then and it sees both Charlotte and Paige end up on the top rope. Paige delivers a Superflex from the top rope to a huge ovation. Charlotte kicks out adn Paige looks frustrated.
Charlotte, realizing she is in trouble, tries to end the match quickly with a couple of roll ups. But Paige survives. Charlotte tries to steal one by using the ropes. Natalya rises up on the apron and she and Charlotte get into a shouting match. Paige delivers a fall away slam to a distracted Charlotte for a two count. Ric Flair walks out and gets into a shouting match with Natalya.
Shane comes with a horde of referees and escortsthe Nature Boy back out. Paige uses the opportunity to roll up a distracted Charlotte to get the pin. It was good to see Paige gain a win and the storytelling was absolutely brilliant. Charlotte looked scared at the end of the match as she realized this maybe the case at Extreme Rules.
Sami Zayn defeats The Miz
The midcard bouts between these four superstars have been great as of late and this was not an exception eiether. Zayn controlled the first half of the match with some major devastating offence. A couple of armdrags, moonsault from the barricade and fiery offence from Zayn left Miz reeling. Zayn sent Miz crashing outside into the barricade not once but twice.
Zayn looked more focus than ever, but Maryse tried to get into his head. The action comes back inside and Zayn delivered vicious right hands in the corner as an Ole! chant went by. Miz counterd it by sending him crashing into the steel steps. It looked like a nasty fall, Zayn got sent face first . Zayn barely beat the count and Miz pounced on him with a killer instinct. Zayn struggled to stay in the match.
A figure four took most of Zayn’s energy as he struggled to make it to the rope. But an exploder suplex out of nowhere to the turnbuckles and a Helluva Kick took care of matters. Zayn earned himself the right to be in the IC Championship picture and it will be a Fatal 4 Way match at Extreme Rules.
Backstage Segment: Dana Brooke debut
Renee Young is backstage with Becky Lynch. Becky Lynch informs her that the eye rake last week on Raw by Emma was not a mistake but it was done intentional. She promised to deliver a Irish Lass Kicking to Emma the next time they meet in the ring. Emma interuupts her.
She tells that she should not worry about her eye but rather keep an eye on her back. Dana Brooke attacks Becky out of nowhere. Dana and Emma take out Becky and mock her in their usual manner. E&D are back together and let’s hope that they make the main roster as interesting as they did with the NXT.
Backstage Segment: Owens gets into trouble
Zack Ryder asks Shane McMahon to provide him another opportunity. Owens walks in and starts to deride Shane and how he runs things. Zack gets in the face of Owens to tell that he beat Owens at WrestleMania and thinks he should be the one be in the match not Owens.
Owens mocks him but Shane announces a match between them. If Ryder wins he will replace Owens in the Fatal 4 Way. Owens looks angry but Shane walks away. Is there a new twist in the IC Title picture?
Sin Cara defeats Rusev
Sin Cara took on Rusev in a one on one match. Rusev dominated most of the match with his power. He delivered Gut-wrench Suplex after Gut-wrench Suplex and established his dominance. He warned Kalisto all the while who was at ringside and taunted him.
Kalisto took his revenge by causing a distraction and allowing Sin Cara to win with a roll up. Rusev fumes as the Lucha Dragons celebrated on the ramp. Earlier, Lana came out first to introduce Rusev and she looked as ravishing as ever.
6 Man Elimination Tag Match ends in No Contest
Roman Reigns and The Usos faced The Club in a six man eliminataion tag match. Anderson and Jey Uso to started things off. Reigns and The Usos showed great tag team chemistry as they dominated Anderson. But Jimmy soon got isolated and The Club pounced on him. The advantage didn’t last long though.
Jey got the hot tag and went to work on Anderson. Gallows delivered a right to Jey behind referee's back and a roll up by Anderson with tights eliminated Jey Uso. Roman and Styles tagged in but before they can clash Gallows tagged himself in much to the displeasure of Styles.
Roman and Gallows go at each other, and Roman ends up with the advantage. Jimmy tags himself in and mounts some good offence but gets caught by a boot from Gallows. Anderson comes in but Jimmy rolls him up to eliminate him. Styles with a Phenomenal Forearm during the break to eliminate Jimmy uso. It now leaves The Guy all alone against Styles and Anderson.
A Superman Punch by Reigns soon eliminates Gallows. Styles comes in and agressively attack Roman before he can recover. He sends a reeling Roman outside and deliveres a Phenomenal Forearm. Styles clears the announcers table, but Roman counters by launching Styles over the announce table to the chairs. Reigns snaps aonce again and looks to put away Styles once more.
Anderson saves Styles with a chair shot to the back. Gallows follows him and they both pounce on Reigns. Usos make the save, but Anderson and Gallows fight them off. Reigns takes out both Gallows and Anderson with a spear each. But, Styles catches Reigns with a Fall Away Kick. Styles goes for a Styles Clash on the chair. Reigns slithers out and AJ ends up on the apron with Reigns in the ring. They stare at each other and Reigns sends the chair to AJ's feat telling him that he does't need it.
Styles sends it back and demands Roman to take it. Roman bows down to take it, Styles goes for the forearm but Roman escapes it. Styles ends up outside the ring. Roman and Styles stare off to end the segment. This feud is getting red hot and WWE is booking this brilliantly.
Owens defeats Ryder
This was a short match. But it was heartening to see Ryder still in the picture. Owens takes control of the match early and punishes Ryder. Owens sends Ryder outside and looks to power bomb Ryder on the apron. Ryder backdrops him and takes control of the match. Owens fights back but soon misses a cannon ball.
Zack Ryder mounts a good offence and tries to take out Owens with a elbow from the top rope. Owens survives. Ryder goes for the Rough Ryder. Owens counters it and delivers a vicious kick. Pop up Powerbomb and settles the match. It looks like no more miracles tonight.
The Dudley Boyz defeat The New Day
The match was a short one too. Before the match, The New Day made their way to the ring to a tremendous ovation and cut a promo on their opponents for the match at Extreme Rules, The Vaudevillains. It was a good promo and as usual entertaiing in a New Day way.
The match was relatively simple, but the Vaudevillains attacked Xavier Woods who was on the ringside and caused a distraction. The Dudleys used it to pick up the win. The Vaudevillains delivered a Whirling Dervish to Kofi to send a statement after the match. It was refreshing to see The Vaudevillains show some character and they performed the heel antics in a relatively good manner.
Big Cass vs Chris Jericho ends in chaos
Big Cass met Chris Jericho in the main event. But the match never got started. As Chris Jericho made his way to the ring, Dean Ambrose attacked him and stole his jacket. Chris was left lying on the ramp as Ambrose made the may to the ring with the jacket on in the dark.
Ambrose went on to destroy Jericho’s $15000 jacket in retalitation to Mitch’s demise. Jericho tried to save what little he could with a rake to the eye to Ambrose. But Big Cass prevents him from leaving. After Jericho slaps Big Cass, Cass sends him into the ring and Ambrose finishes it off with Dirty Deeds.
Ambrose then uttterly destroyed Jericho’s Jacket. He stamped on the circuit boards and ripped off the jacket to make it useless. Ambrose left Jericho screaming in rage and frustration as he made his way up the ramp. Jericho was beside himself as he saw his prized $15000 jacket lying destroyed in the middle of the ring.
This was absolutely brilliant. This is the Ambrose that has been missing for a long time. You don’t mess with Ambrose Asylum and Jericho learned it the hard way.
Backstage Shane ans Stephanie are seen coexisting together.
