We are all set for another promising episode of WWE SmackDown. With Hell In A Cell pay-per-view right around the corner, we are looking forward to significant developments in some of the biggest feuds on the Blue brand. Tonight’s episode will be instrumental in setting the tone of title rivalries heading into HIAC 2021.

#1 Rey Mysterio lays a surprise attack on Roman Reigns on WWE SmackDown
Last week on WWE SmackDown, the main event ended in chaos after Roman Reigns laid a brutal attack on Dominik Mysterio. Earlier in the night, The Usos had an opportunity to challenge Rey and Dominik Mysterio for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team titles. The champions retained their gold after Dominik pinned Jimmy Uso. However, the latter had managed to raise his shoulder while the official mistakenly continued to count for the pinfall.
As a result, Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville booked another title match between the two teams that later accounted for the show's main event. The Usos looked strong inside the ring, but the Mysterios came close to pinning Jimmy Uso once again. This time, Roman Reigns decided to interfere in the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship match and attacked the father-son duo.
He first took out Rey Mysterio at ringside by hitting him with the steel steps. The Universal Champion then turned his attention towards Dominik, who was still inside the ring. Reigns threw him around the ring like a sack of potatoes and brutalized him mercilessly. Even Jimmy Uso disagreed with his cousin’s methods on WWE SmackDown and left the ring.
Now, Rey Mysterio will look to avenge his son by attacking Roman Reigns. He is reportedly the next superstar who will challenge Reigns for the Universal Championship. An unexpected attack on The Tribal Chief tonight would help speed up this rivalry before their rumored title match at Hell In A Cell pay-per-view.
There’s also a chance that this potential feud will lead to high-stakes matches on WWE SmackDown over the next two weeks. That, in turn, will allow the writers to involve Dominik and The Usos in the rivalry as well.

#2 Kevin Owens to make a big decision on WWE SmackDown
Kevin Owens is currently working as a top babyface on WWE SmackDown. He recently found himself in the Intercontinental Championship picture and even challenged Apollo Crews for his gold last week. Commander Azeez was barred from ringside for this match, but that didn’t stop him from tipping the scales in favor of the champion by attacking Owens backstage.
An injured KO couldn’t compete at his best and lost his title match against Apollo Crews. While he was still in the ring, Sami Zayn walked out and attacked his former best friend. Zayn wanted Owens to know how it feels when someone is down, and their friend kicks them even more. It is important to note that both superstars were actively involved in a rivalry on WWE SmackDown until a couple of weeks ago.
Now, Owens is left with an important choice to make. Will he go after the Intercontinental Championship again, or will he turn his attention towards Sami Zayn? It would be exciting to see if he will address the recent turn of events on WWE SmackDown. Could this also eventually become the push that he needs to turn heel?
#3 The Usos set their sights on the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships
Ever since his return on WWE SmackDown, Jimmy Uso has been vocal about wanting to dominate the tag team division alongside his brother. Unfortunately, The Usos are currently struggling to get on the same page owing to the conflict between Jimmy and Roman Reigns. The Universal Champion transformed Jey Uso’s identity on the Blue brand, and the latter is now stuck with a difficult choice.
Last week, The Usos had the opportunity to claim the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships twice in one night. According to the latest backstage rumors, Jey and Jimmy Uso will eventually challenge Rey and Dominik Mysterio for the Tag Team titles at SummerSlam. But before that, Jimmy will have to confirm his alliance with Roman Reigns.
As mentioned before, Roman Reigns and Rey Mysterio are slated to engage in a title feud on WWE SmackDown. The growing tension between the two sides could prompt Jimmy Uso to finally stand with his family. It remains to be seen how Reigns will convince his cousin to acknowledge him as The Head of The Table.
Apart from The Usos, The Alpha Academy and The Street Profits are also looking for a title push. They were involved in a backstage altercation last week and are set to lock horns inside the squared circle on WWE SmackDown tonight.
#4 Major WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship announcement for Hell In A Cell
Bianca Belair is set to defend her WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship against Bayley at Hell In A Cell later this month. The match was confirmed last week after Belair challenged the latter to a title match. The Champion revealed that she wants to shut Bayley’s laughter for good. Tonight, we could see a major development in this feud.
The Role Model was not at the ThunderDome last week, but she could return on WWE SmackDown tonight. She will have the right opportunity to attack Belair and draw more heat. A potentially sneaky escape could prompt The EST of WWE to demand that their match is held inside the monstrous steel structure. Both superstars delivered a great match when they fought for the title at WrestleMania Backlash.
Their encounter would be even more brutal inside Hell In A Cell. In addition to that, backstage rumors claim that WWE SmackDown Superstar Sasha Banks is expected to return at the pay-per-view. This would account for the perfect opportunity to establish Banks’ dominance by having her attack both Belair and Bayley after a hard-hitting title match.
#5 Can Shinsuke Nakamura dethrone Baron Corbin as the King on WWE SmackDown?
Shinsuke Nakamura has reverted to his old, dominant self on WWE SmackDown. He is currently toying with Baron 'King' Corbin and went as far as stealing the latter’s crown. Nakamura then took the crown on a vacation in order to irk Corbin and fuel their rivalry. Both superstars are currently feuding over the authenticity of their royal claims.
Last week, Nakamura and Corbin locked horns in a short yet action-packed match on WWE SmackDown. The latter interestingly managed to pin The King of Strong Style, following which, he decided to take back his crown. However, he couldn’t leave with the same as Rick Boogs stopped him on the ramp. This allowed Nakamura enough time to attack his opponent from behind to steal the crown once again.
Both Nakamura and Corbin have spent a lot of time on the sidelines in the last few months. This is an excellent way to involve them in a rivalry on WWE SmackDown. Nakamura’s alliance with Boogs seems decent so far, and the latter has proved himself useful on more than one occasion.
