This year's SummerSlam event lived up to expectations and it turned out to be one of the best WWE pay-per-views of the entire year. The card was stacked with so many big matches and several legends were part of the show. WWE didn't disappoint us as they delivered another solid show.

Even though many major Superstars were missing from the event such as Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman and Drew McIntyre, the show was still good and the other Superstars stole the show.

From the return of Goldberg and Trish Stratus to major victories for Seth Rollins and Charlotte Flair, there were some notable and astounding moments during the massive event.

In this article, we will look at the 5 most astounding moments from the show and how they either positively or negatively affected the pay-per-view.

#5 The SmackDown Women’s Championship

Bayley defended her title against one of SmackDown’s biggest rising stars Ember Moon at SummerSlam. This match had gold-standard written all over it, however, the booking was not strong enough to make it seem like Ember was a threat at all.

While there were many expectations attached to this championship clash, the match merely existed at the end of the day. We didn't even manage to get a few good spots or moments out of these two extraordinary performers.

Never once did it feel like Bayley would lose, nor did the commentary team adequately put Moon over as a threat to dethrone her.

It was startling to see how Moon’s first major match on the main roster was so mild and felt like almost nothing at the end of the night. Many would even consider it to be the worst match of the night which is really bad for Moon as it seemed like she was finally getting a push.

#4 The Rated-R Superstar hits Elias with the Spear

Elias has become more of an entertainer than a wrestler during the past year, and WWE has used him generously to put legends over. From coming face-to-face with The Undertaker to fighting Jeff Jarett, Elias has done it all in WWE without much success.

On the pre-show, Elias made his way out to put on his usual performance in the ring. However, It was Edge who got the honours of taking out the big mouth. Edge surprised everyone by entering the ring and immediately taking down Elias with his signature Spear before standing tall and soaking in a standing ovation from the crowd.

While it’d have been much more interesting had Edge speared Seth Rollins at the end of the night in continuation to Becky Lynch’s Twitter feud with the legend, it sure would have been too much to ask for from WWE as Rollins would have gotten buried for good.

#3 The Queens put on a fight

With two Women’s Championship matches scheduled for the night, Trish Stratus had fans glued to the screen to simply watch her return to the ring. Trish has remained one of the fittest legends, and she showed the world everything she had by putting on a great match with Charlotte Flair.

The two women showcased why they are in their own words Queens in WWE, as their startling and stunning performance was arguably the best women's match of the night which laid waste to the other two title matches on the main card that preceded it.

Trish was as good as any current WWE Superstar even though she hasn’t wrestled for some time, while Charlotte showed the world why she is considered the best female performer in WWE today. The match not only reminded fans of how brilliant Trish was in the ring during her time at the top but also established Charlotte as one of the best that has ever stepped in the ring once again.

#2 The heart of The Show-off

When the match between Dolph Ziggler and Goldberg was announced, it was obvious that the match would only last a few minutes. While Ziggler tried to get the upper hand early in the match, it took less than two minutes for Goldberg to lay waste to The Show-off, as a spear and a Jackhammer ended the match for the Superstar.

However, that that wasn’t the end of Ziggler’s night, as the Show-off showed a lot of heart and called Goldberg out twice more only to be split in half by two more spears. It was great to watch Ziggler put the legend over in grand fashion and also showed why he isn’t afraid of anyone.

What made things even more interesting was the fact that Ziggler came out of the match looking much stronger than we thought he would before the match began. This was an overall good match that worked well for both the Superstars involved.

#1 A clean loss after 3 years for Lesnar

Seth Rollins' monumental victory over Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35 was met with some criticism and many argued that Rollins never slew The Beast cleanly and used some dirty tactics in his win.

At SummerSlam, Rollins once again had an opportunity to prove himself to the WWE Universe and slay Brock Lesnar for good to win the Universal Championship from The Beast once more. This time around, WWE booked the match very well and Rollins startled everyone by picking up a hard-fought and clean victory of Brock Lesnar.

This allowed Rollins to win the Universal Championship for the second time, and again rise to the top of the Raw men’s roster. This will help WWE establish Rollins as one of WWE's biggest stars amid controversial moments and backlash from the fans. Now, WWE needs to ensure that they keep Rollins in control for the coming weeks.
