WWE: Superstar Ratings from SummerSlam 2013

John Cena

As the dust and smoke settles down, SummerSlam has turned out to be the best PPV of the year so far!

With some great matches and some phenomenal twists and turns, SummerSlam provided everything that a good PPV should. The PPV kicked off with the pre – show match between the WWE United States champion Dean Ambrose, and “Mr. Monday Night” Rob Van Dam. SummerSlam gave the WWE universe a lot to remember, and with some great matches, it had everything to become a memorable event. So who were the superstars that stole the show? In this article, I take a look at five superstars who had an amazing night, and give my ratings.

5. John Cena

This might take some people by surprise, but at number 5 is none other than the former WWE champion, John Cena. Cena walked into SummerSlam as the WWE champion, and although people expected him to lose, very few might have actually banked on Cena to come out with a strong performance.

Although Cena isn’t a “good wrestler” by a long shot, he had that “chemistry” with Daniel Bryan that people talk about. Cena held his own against the technical genius, and once again proved that he can deliver in the “big match” situations. With Cena not being the WWE champion anymore, it is rumoured that he will undergo a surgery on his elbow and take some time off.

With Daniel Bryan being the “underdog against the powers that be”, there is a good chance that Cena’s absence will ultimately be for the best. But on the night of SummerSlam, Cena was in his element, and came out with a strong performance.

Christian World HC

Christian

4. Christian

Christian faced Alberto Del Rio with the World Heavyweight championship on the line, and proved once again just why he is considered to be one of the best workers in the business. Christian put on a great match with Alberto at SummerSlam, but received the short end of the stick when all was said and done.

With the bout being hyped as Christian’s last chance for the World title, will this be it for Captain Charisma? One has to wonder if Christian will ever challenge for the World title again, but rest assured, this past Sunday, Christian proved to the world that he could put on a good match with almost anyone in the locker room.

Rating: *** ½

Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar

3. Brock Lesnar

Dubbed as “The beast incarnate”, Brock Lesnar took on CM Punk in a hellacious physical match at SummerSlam. With Paul Heyman by his side, Lesnar dominated the bout, and took CM Punk apart with his brute strength. Although Punk held his own against the monster, Lesnar showed the world just why he is considered to be the scariest guy in the WWE!

Brock Lesnar won the bout in the end, thanks to his friend and manager, Paul Heyman. Where will Lesnar go from here? One has to believe that Lesnar will take time off from WWE until he is needed for yet another mega event down the road.

Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan

2. Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan took on John Cena for the WWE championship, and when the night ended, he did the unthinkable. Daniel Bryan defeated John Cena to become the new WWE champion, and the roof was blown off of Staples Center. Daniel Bryan’s 15 year journey resulted in him becoming the WWE champion, and just as it looked like Bryan would walk out with the title, Orton’s music hit and he made his way to the ring.

To everyone’s surprise, Triple H drilled Bryan with a pedigree, enabling Orton to cash in his Money in the Bank contract and become the new WWE champion! Daniel Bryan now has an uphill task ahead of him, and we can only wait and watch how he responds to the recent turn of events.

CM Punk

CM Punk

1. CM Punk

At number 1 is the all too familiar name of CM Punk! Punk took on Brock Lesnar, in what was arguably the match of the night. Punk and Lesnar gave everything they had, and when Punk had the advantage, he was distracted by Heyman which enabled Lesnar to give a devastating F – 5 to the Second City Saint and pick up the victory, but not before Punk pushed him to his limit.

After the match, the Los Angeles crowd gave Punk a standing ovation! Where will Punk go from here? We have to wait and find out. But on Sunday, the night belonged to CM Punk.
