WWE WrestleMania 33 News: WWE confirms 30 names for the 2017 Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
A multitude of RAW and Smackdown Superstars will collide to win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
What’s the story?
WWE has now announced the names of all the participants in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. The Battle Royal will feature some of the best talents of both RAW and SmackDown LIVE all competing for a shot at Wrestlemania glory.
In case you didn’t know...
The Andre the Giant Battle Royal has become an integral part of the WrestleMania card for the past three years.
The first edition of the over the top rope Battle Royal took place in New Orleans at Wrestlemania XXX, where Cesaro became the first ever man to win the event. Big Show went on to win the second edition while Baron Corbin launched his main roster career with a win in the third edition of the event last year.
The heart of the matter
The last episode of Monday Night RAW featured some Superstars in an over the top challenge going up against the dominant Big Show. All of these Superstars will be a part of the Battle Royal.
On the go home show of SmackDown LIVE, it was announced that almost the entire tag team division of the blue brand would be a part of the Battle Royal at the ‘Show of Shows.’
This means that the SmackDown LIVE Tag Team Championship will not be defended at Wrestlemania due to time constraints. A 10-man tag team match was booked on SmackDown to hype the Battle Royal. The WWE Superstars announced for the match are as follows:
The fourth annual Andre the Giant Battle Royal will be a part of the kickoff show this Sunday in Orlando. The match will emanate from the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, during the second hour of the Wrestlemania Kickoff show and will be streaming live on the WWE Network and a host of other platforms.
The Andre the Giant Battle Royal is a subtle way of featuring as many Superstars into the Wrestlemania card as possible. It gives the Superstars their moment of glory at the Grandest Stage of Them All.
A win in the Battle Royal could mean a huge push, as seen with Corbin’s career trajectory. This year, Braun Strowman and Sami Zayn are among the favourites to lift the prestigious trophy.
