Fresh off from the Attitude Era the WWE introduced a new concept which changed the way the fans looked at matches inside a cage. The brain child of former WCW booker Eric Bischoff, the Elimination Chamber is one of the most unforgiving structures in professional wrestling.
Ever since its inception, the structure has been cutting down the length of careers and sorting out the men from the boys. Throughout the year, there have been some great chamber matches in WWE and the WWE Universe is all set to witness some more as the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view is approaching fast. So in order to refresh the fading memory, here is a look at all the facts, stats and every other detail related to the Satan’s playground.
Structure
Unforgiving steel
The steel structure is 16 ft. (4.9 m) high and has a diameter36 ft. (11 m) whilst being built from 2 miles of Steel chain and 10 tons of steel. It has four glassed pods to hold the superstars who aren’t involved in the match during the start.
Rules
The match usually has six competitors in which two will start while the other will be enclosed in the pods in the chamber. Then the four wrestlers will be given the chance to enter the match in regular intervals. A wrestler who gets pinned or submitted gets eliminated instantly and has to leave the chamber. The process continues until only one superstar remains in the chamber that is declared as the winner.

Shawn Micheals
The Elimination Chamber was first introduced in 2002 and Triple H, Booker T, Shawn Michaels, Kane, Rob Van Dam and Chris Jericho fought in the first match which had Triple H’s World Heavyweight Championship on the line.
Michaels emerged as the winner and thus won his only World Heavyweight Championship in his career. After that there have been 15 Elimination Chamber matches in the WWE taking the total to 16 overall. The Chamber found its way into Summer Slam and No Way Out before getting a pay-per-view named after it in 2010.

- Edge is the only superstar to take part in two elimination chamber matches in a single night. He lost his first match in No Way Out pay-per-view in 2009 then went on to take Kofi Kingston’s place in the second match later that night and won it.
