One Piece's addictive storytelling is a masterful blend of mystery, epic moments, and comedy. Besides the emotional bits and action-packed scenes, the franchise wouldn’t be the same without its trademark surreal humor. In particular, many of the funniest moments in One Piece revolve around characters using preposterous disguises in a foolish attempt to go unnoticed.

In most cases, characters disguise themselves in a somehow believable manner, like Luffy and Sabo as "Lucy," but at times, they end up donning absolutely improbable camouflages. It is said that the best way to conceal one’s identity is to hide it in plain sight, but One Piece radicalizes the concept, taking it to a whole different level.

Some characters end up wearing disguises so bad that readers immediately recognize them. In-universe, however, these disguises work perfectly, to the point where the concerned characters can use them to pass themselves off as other people, creating grotesque alternate identities.

6) The fake Straw Hat Pirates

As the Straw Hats disappeared from the public eye, a group of imposters led by Demaro Black attempted to impersonate Luffy and the others. Black's idea was to use the Straw Hat crew's reputation to recruit strong pirates at his service.

Despite dressing themselves up like the original Straw Hats, the imposters looked nothing like them. Their disguises were bad due to their comically different appearances and body shapes. For example, the fake Luffy was a tall, fat, and middle-aged man, unlike the original one, who is a slim-bodied young man.

Somehow, however, many people, including seasoned pirates, were fooled by the objectively preposterous ruse. Still, the fake Straw Hat Pirates put their plan into action right around the time the real ones had decided to rendezvous after their two-year-long training.

While this led to hilarious scenes, such as Chopper meeting some of the fake Straw Hats and being laughably unable to tell them apart from his real comrades, it also spelled doom for the imposters. They were all either captured by the Marines or buried alive by the Caribou Pirates.

5) Jesus Burgess as Mr. Store

Under the alias of Mr Store, Jesus Burgess from the Blackbeard Pirates entered the Corrida Colosseum tournament with the aim to win the Flame-Flame Fruit. Impressively, he was able to take down all the contestants in his block with ease, winning the battle royale and advancing to the finals.

Only at that point did Burgess reveal his identity, shocking spectators. To be fair, the really shocking thing was that no one had noticed his disguise before, as his camouflage only consisted of a paper bag put upside-down on the face as a kind of mask.

Funnily enough, Burgess revealed his identity, but not his face. Almost paraphrasing the iconic trope from Naruto's Kakashi Hatake, under Burgess' "Happy Store" mask, there was another mask.

4) Usopp as Sogeking

Unable to cope with the idea of abandoning the irreparably damaged Going Merry to continue the journey with another ship, Usopp separated from the rest of the crew. When the CP9 agents took Nico Robin, he wanted to reconnect with his comrades once again.

However, he was unable to face his crewmates as he felt ashamed and remorseful for his behavior. As such, he decided to disguise himself as Sogeking, the alleged King of Snipers. To do that, he wore a gold-colored sun-shaped mask on his face, and donned a red cape.

Needless to say, the disguise didn't fool anyone, except Luffy and Chopper, the only ones naive enough to fall for it. While the Sogeking disguise was ridiculous, it became unexpectedly important in the context of the story of One Piece.

When Luffy was about to be defeated by Rob Lucci, Usopp took off his Sogeking mask and shouted a heartfelt encouragement to the former. Invigorated by Usopp's words, Luffy gathered his last shred of energy and beat the dangerous villain.

3) Kinemon as Donquixote Doflamingo

During the Dressrosa Arc, Kinemon infiltrated the Royal Palace in search of his friend Kanjuro. In an attempt to go unnoticed, the samurai disguised himself as none other than Donquixote Doflamingo, the vicious Warlord who ruled Dressrosa.

Kinemon's disguise was anything but believable. However, it worked, to the point where even Gladius, one of Doflamingo's closest subordinates, was totally deceived when he ran into Kinemon.

After tricking Gladius, Kinemon continued his exploration undisturbed. A testament to the effectiveness of Kinemon's ludicrous camouflage, even the narrator's box hilariously introduced the samurai as "Donquixote Doflaemon."

2) Foxy as his crew’s nurse and cook

The Davy Back Fight is a traditional game between pirate crews. As it's a competition between pirates, foul play can be involved, and that's where "Silver Fox" Foxy, the captain of the homonymous crew, excels.

During the third event of the Davy Back Fight, Foxy used every dirty trick in his book to make sure he would get the better of Luffy. As the location of the event was Foxy's ship, the trickster ran away inside it, while Luffy pursued him.

Shortly after, Luffy ran into a bizarre woman who was none other than Foxy, now disguised with an over-sized paper-mache head in order to pretend to be the ship's nurse. The ruse was hilariously poor, but Luffy still fell for it, and asked the "woman" if she had seen Foxy.

Later, Foxy used a similarly poor disguise, this time as the ship's cook. Incredibly, Luffy failed to figure it out again, which led an incredulous Foxy to unmask himself.

Granted, Luffy is very naive, but no one would have expected to see him fall for Foxy's grotesque disguises, making this one of the funniest scenes in the entire One Piece series.

1) Caesar Clown as Gangster Gastino

After the various vicissitudes in Punk Hazard and Dressrosa, the mad scientist Caesar Clown ended up becoming a somewhat unorthodox traveling companion for the Straw Hats. Despite his despicable persona, Caesar is one of those characters who is impossible not to laugh at, given his signature laugh and comical mannerisms.

Forced to work for Big Mom, Caesar was approached by Capone Bege, who proposed that he join the conspiracy aimed at killing the Yonko. Not wanting to be recognized by the Straw Hat Pirates, who were also part of the plot, Caesar changed his clothes, spiked his hair, and claimed to be Capone's sworn brother, Gangster Gastino.

The attempt was so poor that even Luffy immediately recognized Gangster Gastino as Caesar. Only Chopper wasn't able to see through the disguise. However, as Caesar insisted that he was Gastino, Luffy ludicrously acknowledged him as such.

The comedy continued as Capone explained his assassination plan, with Caesar hilariously outlining his new inventions, the KX Launchers. Happier than ever, Caesar proudly bragged about how deadly the KX Launchers were, delighted to show off his evil scientific genius.
