The Naruto series has always been one of the most popular titles in the shonen genre. It has introduced many iconic characters, such as Sasuke, Might Guy, and Kakashi, and various mechanics, such as the Sharingan and Sage mode. But none have caused as much intrigue as the tailed beasts.

Recently, the spoilers for chapter 9 of Boruto Two Blue Vortex revealed the revival of Kurama, one of the nine-tailed beasts, sparking much debate in the Naruto fanbase. Even though tailed beasts like the three tails have previously reformed after being "destroyed," fans have argued that the revival of Kurama is a completely new plot point.

Many have gone on to claim that Kurama's arrival breaks the series' rules. However, some believe its return was established in Naruto years ago.

Chapter 9 will be officially released on April 21, 2024, and will be available on Shueisha's MANGAPlus platform.

Naruto: Kurama's revival was just a matter of time

Throughout the majority of the Naruto series, the tailed beasts remained mysterious, with most of the information about their formation and origins revealed towards the end of the Shippuden series. Despite their limited appearances in Boruto, their existence was confirmed during the Urashiki arc.

Kurama's recent appearance has led to many Naruto fans arguing about the established rules around tailed beasts' reincarnation. According to these, tailed beasts will eventually reform and reincarnate in the wild, but it should be noted that the rules only apply when tailed beast chakra is released from a jinchuriki.

Even in the early episodes of Naruto Shippuden, it was revealed that if a jinchuriki is killed in action, the tailed beast's chakra is completely released, but the beast itself does not die.

A huge portion of the Naruto fanbase has attributed Kurama's revival inside Himawari to being a very convenient random event. But the plot point for Boruto or Himawari to be connected to Kurama and eventually become a jinchuriki has always been present in the form of their whiskers.

Since Boruto and Himawari were both conceived while Naruto still had Kurama inside him, it is guaranteed that they have remnants of Kurama's chakra, as indicated by the whiskers on their cheeks.

Kurama died after using all of his chakra as fuel for the Baryon mode, resulting in the nine-tailed chakra sealed inside him simply vanishing. The Kurama connected with Himawari might simply be a fragment of the former's essence and chakra that were present in her.

The new Kurama might also be a completely new Nine-Tails, as indicated by his question to Himawari, asking whether she knew who he was.

Final Thoughts

While many fans might argue that Kurama could've reformed inside Boruto, he already has Momoshiki sealed inside him, which might have hindered the reforming process.

Kurama's revival in Boruto Two Blue Vortex chapter 9 and his peculiar connection to Himawari can be simply attributed to the whiskers being an indicator of the presence of the Nine-Tailed Fox's chakra.
