One Piece chapter 1151 recently came out and continued with Imu and the Holy Knights' rampage across Elbaph, with the leader of the World Government also turning several characters into demons. This has led to a theory made by X user named @UekyAgung, highlighting the possibility that King Harald was turned into a demon by Imu, and Loki had to murder his father.
It would make sense because the One Piece author, Eiichiro Oda, has been trying to portray Loki as a more likable character and someone whose backstory seems more complex than just a murderer. Therefore, there is a very good chance that he was pushed into the situation because of these circumstances, and Imu is the one responsible for all of that.

Loki taking Harald's life might have been because of Imu in One Piece
Now that it has been confirmed that Imu has the power to turn the Giants (and perhaps people in general) into demons, there is a strong possibility she did that to the king of Elbaph, Harald, several years ago to take control of this land. According to this theory, Loki killed his father because he became a demon and was the only way to keep Elbaph from destroying itself.
There is a strong possibility that Loki was framed by Imu and the World Government to prevent him from sabotaging their plans, which is why he was imprisoned for his actions. Furthermore, the arc has already depicted a version of King Harald without his horns, suggesting they might have resulted from being transformed into a demon by Imu's Domi Reversi.
It is also important to note that the complete mechanics of Imu's ability to transform individuals have not yet been disclosed, which could influence Loki's backstory. However, everything seems to indicate that he killed Harald and his followers because they were demons, and perhaps even did so out of mercy so they could return to their true selves.
What could this mean for the story?

Many One Piece fans have theorized in recent months that Loki will be the final addition to the Straw Hats' crew, and that is why he has been set up with a possible vendetta against the World Government. After all, if this theory proves to be correct, he would have a lot of valid reasons to want to destroy them and Imu, which could be a major aspect of his character moving forward.
Furthermore, this revelation could also attempt to explain why Imu didn't control the entirety of Elbaph with her abilities, which Oda needs to explain so this doesn't become a plot hole. After, if she didn't have to meet certain conditions to turn people into demons, she could have turned multiple enemies into those beings and had no challenges in the story.
Final thoughts
Oda may reveal in the upcoming One Piece chapters that Imu was responsible for King Harald's death, and it would make a lot of sense given the circumstances. This would explain some elements of Loki's character and set up a potential redemption for him in front of his people.
