Ranma ½ episode 9 has Ranma and Akane preparing to fight Azusa and Mikado
At the beginning of Ranma ½ episode 9, Ryoga Hibiki is seen reaching the Furinkan school as he prepares to team up with Akane Tendo during her battle with the "The Golden Pair of Kolhotz High School", Azusa Shiratori and Mikado Sanzenin. However, Ranma throws water at Mikado and turns him into a pig, with the protagonist then heading to the dressing room and challenging Mikado to fight over Akane's honor.
Moving into the battle, Azusa and Mikado make a flashy entrance, thus showing the audience the level of chemistry they have. On the other hand, Akane and Ranma struggle greatly because the latter still cannot ice skate, which puts their backs against the wall since the Golden Pair quickly begins to attack them.
Mikado tries to flirt with Akane, asking her to go out with him after the battle, but Ranma Saotome steps in and proclaims that she is his fiance, which means that he is not going to let him have his way. This leads Mikado and Azusa to use a special technique that has them spinning with the couple they are holding, meaning to break them, but Ranma lets go of Akane only to take a major hit for her.

The second part of Ranma ½ episode 9 focuses on the aftermath of the protagonist's injury because of the hit he took for Akane. He can barely stand still because of the pain and Ryoga steps in as he breaks free from the chains as P-chan and turns into his human form. Ryoga turns Ranma into a woman and steps aside as he fights with Akane.
A lot of shenanigans take place at this moment of the episode, with Mikado trying to flirt with the female version of Ranma because of the kiss they shared. Ultimately, Ranma decides to keep fighting after sharing a tender moment with Akane, with now Ryoga serving as his partner.
However, both characters continue to struggle since they don't know how to ice skate, and Ryoga, out of anger, breaks the ice, with the revelation that this is a frozen pool. They stand on a block of ice and choose to win so Ryoga is not revealed to be P-Chan and disappoint Akane, with Ranma ½ episode 9 ending that way.

Ranma ½ episode 9 featured one of the most creative fights in the series and also shows how the protagonist cares deeply for Akane as a love interest. It also sets up the first time in the series that Ryoga and Ranma have to fight together for a common goal.
