With the ongoing My Hero Academia anime soon set to finish airing, fans have already begun wondering about the production of My Hero Academia season 8. However, that's when fans were hit with a surprising rumor, as per which, the franchise's finale will be adapted as part of a movie.
Ever since Ufotable started profiting off of Demon Slayer movies, several animation studios noted the potential of adapting part of their franchise's source material as a movie. Similar situations were seen in the case of Dragon Ball, Haikyuu!!, Blue Lock, and several other anime.
So, with that in mind, is turning My Hero Academia season 8 into a movie a good move for Studio BONES?

Studio BONES should stick with television anime for My Hero Academia season 8
As fans must know by now, My Hero Academia season 7 is set to end next week with the anime's final episode. This effectively means that the remainder of the anime will need to be adapted later. However, as suggested by the rumors online, the remainder of the manga series is set to be adapted as an anime movie.
This move could end up being a huge mistake by Studio BONES as it will effectively force the anime's staff to either omit some of the scenes from the final battle or the epilogue.
As manga readers know, My Hero Academia manga has a total of 430 chapters released as part of its serialization. As of now, the anime has adapted 394 chapters from the manga, leaving behind 36 chapters yet to be adapted.
If one were to consider that My Hero Academia season 7 finale will adapt another three chapters from the manga, Studio BONES will effectively be left with around 33 chapters to adapt as part of the anime's finale.
Given the general three-chapter-per-episode adaptation speed, the remainder of the manga would be just the perfect amount of chapters left for an 11-episode My Hero Academia season 8 anime.
With this in mind, it would be best for Studio BONES to produce My Hero Academia season 8 rather than a movie. This is because, if the animation studio were to produce a movie, a faithful adaptation would only see them adapt around 20 chapters as part of a two-hour movie.
This means that unless BONES are prepared to risk their adaptation with a peculiar three-hour runtime movie or split the movie into two parts, a film adaptation would force the anime's staff to omit events from the source material in the finale. Hence, to avoid such a situation, Studio BONES should refrain from a movie adaptation and produce My Hero Academia season 8 as a television anime.
