The Naruto and One Piece fandoms have been competing against each other for a very long time. The recent excitement around the One Piece remake encouraged the sentiment that the pacing issues plaguing the series will finally be cured.
However, some Naruto fans mentioned how One Piece focuses too much on side characters and their reactions to the current narrative, which makes it impossible to get rid of the pacing issues.
This criticism was accompanied by a collage of the numerous reactions to Vegapunk's speech, sparking a frenzy among the series' fans.

Naruto fans at war over upcoming One Piece remake's pacing
The recent announcement of the remake by Wit Studio has led many fans to assume that the pacing issues plaguing the series will finally be resolved. However, Naruto fans argue that the content of One Piece is filled with numerous scenes of side characters reacting to major revelations, suggesting that pacing issues will persist regardless.
The co-founder of Wit Studio recently revealed that the motivation behind the remake is to adapt the earlier episodes with modern animation, making the series more appealing to the new generation of anime fans.
This further increases the possibility that the series might shift from slow to fast pacing to cater to newer viewers' preferences.
Fan reactions to the remarks
One fan mentioned how the storytelling structure of One Piece contains a huge amount of information, even by manga standards, emphasizing that the pacing issue will persist due to the manga's material rather than its release schedule.
This claim was made using the numerous panels depicting the world's reaction to Vegapunk's broadcast, which managed to spark an entirely new conflict.
Another fan took this opportunity to mention how using the collection of reaction panels to emphasize a pacing issue is redundant, as the panels being referenced are integral to the current scenario of Vegapunk revealing the world's secrets.
These panels are important to the narrative and cannot be dismissed as contributors to pacing issues..
"It’s almost like vegapunk is broadcasting his message around the world!?!," one fan wrote.

One fan argued that such a large number of reactions and side content is a natural byproduct of Oda creating such detailed and well-written story arcs. The fan also mentioned that without these reactions, chapters and entire arcs would become bland.
"That’s what thousands of chapters get you when you make each arc detailed with different characters, it would be very bland without reactions throughout the world and it’s cool to see them again, I don’t get this argument at all," another fan wrote.
Another fan took this opportunity to criticize how the focus on side characters and their reactions is highly appreciated in the fandom. They pointed out that, in contrast, the Naruto fandom and story have a habit of simply abandoning prominent side characters..
"Unlike naruto who forgot major character like neji and lee op has this many characters who still matter bro setting himself up lmao," one fan wrote.
The actual details behind the remake are still unknown, so it is still possible that the pacing issues could simply become worse, with only the animation being revamped by Wit Studio.
