Tyrese Hunter is an American point guard who is playing his senior season with the Memphis Tigers as of the 2024-25 season. He began his high school career at St. Catherine's High School, where he amassed 1,589 career points and led the team to a Division 3 state championship in his senior year. As a senior, he averaged 18.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists per contest. Hunter was also named the MVP at the 2021 Allen Iverson Roundball Classic. Following his prep career, Hunter was tabbed as the No.31 overall prospect in the 2021 recruiting class by Rivals.
Hunter received offers from Arizona State, Creighton, Florida, Georgia Tech, Miami, Minnesota, Texas A&M, UConn, and several programs but decided to embark on his collegiate journey with Iowa State Cyclones according to 247Sports. In his freshman campaign, Hunter started in all 35 games and was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year after leading the team with 4.9 assists. The following season, he transferred to Texas where he would spend the next two seasons. As a junior, Hunter started in all 33 games and averaged 32.2 mpg, 11.1 points and 4.1 assists for the Longhorns (via ESPN). In 2024, the 6 ft 0 in point guard decided to transfer to Memphis for his final season of basketball. As of March 2025, Hunter has averaged a career-high 14.3 points with 3.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 27 games.
