Christopher Blair Gaffaney a cricket umpire from New Zealand was born on 30 November 1975 in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. He is considered as one of the best cricket umpires in the world. Gaffaney is involved as a member of the ICC Elite umpire panel and is the official umpires in the Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.


Early Career


Gaffaney is the former cricketer from New Zealand who played for New Zealand’s domestic cricket team Otago Volts.


He played as the right-handed batsman, for First-Class cricket he played about 83 matches and also played 113 List-A matches. He has scored about 4711 runs and 2411 runs in the First-Class and List-A matches respectively.



Umpiring Career


Gaffaney made his umpiring debut in the year 2010 in the match which was played between Canada and Ireland at Toronto.


In the year 2014, he served as an umpire on the ICC International Panel of Umpires. He umpired his first Test match in a match played between Zimbabwe and South Africa at Harare.

Gaffaney was selected to umpire the 2015 Cricket World Cup, he was one of the twenty talented umpires. He umpired three matches during the 2015 world cup.


His performance was quite consistent during 2015 and 2016 and Gaffaney made it to the ICC Elite umpire panel.


He has umpired 19 Test matches, 57 ODI, and 20 T20 international matches.
