India’s first win against England came in 1952 at Chennai. The Indian side led by Vijay Hazare won the match by an innings and 8 runs. The back to back wins in 1962 at Kolkata and Chennai saw India win their first Test series against England. The next match was also won by India, leading to India’s first ODI series win against England. India also defeated England in the semi-final of the 1983 World Cup. Overall, India has an upper hand in the 50-over format with 11 more wins than England.

The first T20I meeting between these two sides took place in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup at Durban. The eventual champions won the match by 8 runs.
