Stats: Most Test hundreds by a cricketer for each country

Kane Williamson who has been going through a great run of form equalled the legendary Martin Crowe’s record for the most number of Test centuries by a New Zealand batsman in the history of cricket. 

He did so by scoring a magnificent century against South Africa at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on March 27th,  2017. With 17 centuries to his name, he is still 56th on the list of the most number of Test centuries ever scored.

India’s Sachin Tendulkar continues to sit pretty on top of the table with 51 Test centuries to his name with South Africa’s Jacques Kallis in 2nd place.

In this article, we take a look at the most hundreds scored by a batsman from each country. 

Australia: Ricky Ponting

Arguably the greatest ever Test batsman for Australia and one of the best in the world during his day, Ricky Ponting terrorised opposition bowlers in his career which spanned over 15 years.

In 168 test matches, Ponting scored 13378 runs at a phenomenal average of 51.85 with 41 centuries and 62 half-centuries to his name.

He broke Steve Waugh’s record for the most number of Test centuries way back in 2006 against England at the Adelaide Oval where he scored 142 in the first innings of the match which helped Australia in eventually winning the match by six wickets.  


Steve Smith, who is currently on 20 Test centuries is the only active Australian who is closest to Ponting’s record.

Bangladesh: Tamim Iqbal

Bangladesh cricket have gone through a transformation over the past few years and have turned over a new leaf. Tamim Iqbal has been in the thick of the action for the Tigers for the past few years and has provided the much-needed start at the beginning of the innings.

Having made his Test debut in 2008, he has played 49 Tests and has scored 3677 runs at an average of 39.53 with 22 half centuries and 8 centuries to his name.

He broke Mohammed Ashraful's record of the most number of Test centuries by a Bangladeshi batsman in 2015 when he scored his first double-century against Pakistan at the  Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna. 

Shakib Al Hasan and Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim are currently 3 centuries behind Tamim.
