The Women’s Big Bash League is in its seventh edition in 2021. The tournament will take place with COVID-19 restrictions in effect and all the players safe in bio-secure bubbles for each team. The tournament began in 2015 and has gone on to increase its value with each annual edition.
Let’s have a look at the WBBL winners list:
Season | Winners | Won by | Runners-Up |
2015 | Sydney Thunder | 3 wickets | Sydney Sixers |
2016 | Sydney Sixers | 7 runs | Perth Scorchers |
2017 | Sydney Sixers | 9 wickets | Perth Scorchers |
2018 | Brisbane Heat | 3 wickets | Sydney Sixers |
2019 | Brisbane Heat | 6 wickets | Adelaide Strikers |
2020 | Sydney Thunder | 7 wickets | Melbourne Stars |
2021 | Perth Scorchers | 12 runs | Adelaide Strikers |
In the first six seasons of the tourney, the fans have witnessed three different teams lift the trophy. Out of those three teams, two are from Sydney. With the entirety of WBBL 2021 taking place across eight venues in Hobart, Launceston, Perth, Adelaide and Mackay, we can expect a well-fought tournament. The WBBL winners from 2020, Sydney Thunder will have to work hard and find the right balance to defend their title this year.
