McLaren Racing is the third-most successful team in the history of Formula 1. It was founded by Bruce McLaren in 1963 as Bruce McLaren Motor Racing Limited. He was the only driver to have won the race in his racing team bearing his name. McLaren won in Belgium in 1968, giving a first Grand Prix victory to the team. In the early days, McLaren used Ford’s 3.0L V8 engine, which was underpowered. So, with new specifications and engineering, McLaren partnered with Cosworth for the engine supplier.

From 1968 to 1982, Ford Cosworth DFV engines were used in McLaren F1 cars. It was a major upgrade for the team, which enabled them to win their first-ever F1 constructor title in 1974 with Emerson Fittipaldi as the driver champion for the team. It discontinued this engine after 1983 and signed a multi-year deal with TAG-Porsche as an engine supplier for the 1983 season until 1988.

With a TAG-Porsche-powered engine, McLaren won two consecutive constructors' titles in 1984 and 1985. The most successful years for the team were with Honda, winning four constructors' championship titles and five drivers' titles. This period of dominance also carried to 1998, when Mika Häkkinen won his first drivers' title with McLaren.

In 1998, McLaren won its eighth constructors' title with Mercedes as their engine supplier. Mercedes has supplied their custom-made engine to McLaren since 2023. With the new agreement, McLaren signed a multi-year deal with Mercedes to be the engine supplier for the team. In 2024, McLaren won its ninth constructors' title after 26 years.
