#3 Luis Muriel (Atalanta)

Gian Piero Gasperini's Atalanta continued their impressive attacking football in the 2020-21 Serie A, where they finished a creditable third. Impressively, Atalanta were the top scorers in the Italian top flight last season, scoring 90 goals, 22 of them coming from Luis Muriel.

The 30-year-old Colombian striker also bagged seven assists. He ranked first in the 2020-21 Serie A for both shots attempted and shots on target. Muriel failed to recreate his prolific club form for Colombia at Copa America 2021, though, going goalless during the tournament.

#2 Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan)

Antonio Conte led Inter Milan to their first Serie A title in over a decade last season, thanks to the fabulous form of Romelu Lukaku, who was their focal point in attack.

After narrowly missing out on the league title in 2019-20, Inter were not to be denied last season. Conte's managerial nous, coupled with Lukaku's prowess up front, made the Nerazzurri a formidable attacking force. Inter Milan scored 89 league goals during the Serie A season, just one shy of Atalanta.

Romelu Lukaku finished last season with an impressive tally of 24 goals and 11 assists. He finished second in both the goalscorers and assist providers list for the 2020-21 Serie A season. The Belgian striker tallied the most goal contributions by any player, though.

Lukaku has evolved into a complete striker under Conte, and the stats back that up. He was second in last season's Serie A for progressive passes received, which means Lukaku likes to play with his back towards goal. He's also very lethal, as evidenced by his ranking of third in shots on target.

Romelu Lukaku had a productive Euros campaign with Belgium in the summer. He was their most influential player alongside Kevin de Bruyne, bagging four goals before the Red Devils were eliminated by eventual champions Italy.

Ahead of the new Serie A season, it will be interesting to see if Lukaku remains in the Serie A, amid strong interest from Chelsea. Nevertheless, new Inter boss Filippo Inzaghi will hope the Belgian striker continues his stay in Italy with the reigning Serie A champions.

#1 Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus)

Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is a player who needs no introduction. Despite Juventus enduring a dismal campaign under Andrea Pirlo, the 36-year-old attacker, regarded as one of the best players to have graced the game, took home the Golden Boot award.

Ronaldo ended the 2020-21 Serie A campaign with 29 goals and two assists. He also ranked first in the Serie A last season for shots attempted and shots on target. Despite being on the wrong side of 30, Ronaldo continues to impress; he was ranked first in carries into the penalty area in the 2020-21 Serie A.

Ronaldo was impressive at Euro 2020 for Portugal, too, bagging five goals and an assist, despite the holders crashing out in the Round of 16. Massimiliano Allegri, who was re-hired as Juventus boss, will bank on Ronaldo to return Juventus to winning ways in the Serie A.
