Gaming enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for the PS5 Pro. While we don’t know when it is going to hit the market, rumors suggest the release date is in late 2024. One thing we are definitely sure about is that it will boast some decent improvements over its standard version. But will that be enough to halt your decision to buy a PlayStation 5 now?

As we all know, there was a buzz over the internet about the PS5 Pro coming with the PS5 Slim, which replaced the standard console recently, but Sony has some different plans maybe. As the name suggests the new variant is smaller and lighter, and has more storage. However, the overall performance remains the same.

The PS5 is still a great choice, and after the Slim variant, you may find a good deal on the remaining stock. So, should you buy it now, or wait for the Pro?

The PlayStation 5 is almost four years old. The latest Slim variant doesn’t come with drastic updates either. So, it is safe to assume that the upcoming console will get a boost in almost every spec. Many reports even suggest that the PS5 Pro would be the most powerful console on the market.

The major focus of the rumored PS console is higher resolution and framerate compared to its standard version. Looking at the history, chances are that the upcoming gaming system will be physically taller and thicker than its “Slim” predecessor. We may see a 45% faster GPU, faster memory, a high-frequency CPU, and other hardware upgrades, which will definitely need more space.

The PS5 Pro is rumored to support 4K@120Hz with a much more powerful ray tracing unit, enabling more realistic lighting effects in games. Considering all the advancements, we might also see a better cooling system to handle the increased processing power. It is also speculated to bring PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). A technology to upscale the image quality using machine learning, similar to Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR.

However, all these functionalities are speculations as of now. We will definitely see an improvement in specs, and so will the price. The estimated cost is around $499-$599.

The PS5's specs don’t look like the best in the market, but they are enough to deliver a pleasurable gaming experience. However, Sony has now transitioned to the PS5 Slim with slight changes. You will get the standard variants till the stocks last.

Giving a straight answer to this question is quite tricky. We can expect a better PlayStation console to be released as soon as this year, but we can’t confirm it as of now due to the lack of any official update. Looking at the rumors and speculation, the upcoming PS5 Pro will boast significant updates in terms of visual fidelity. While we also get better processing power, the focus looks more on delivering high framerate and resolutions.

If you want to enjoy sharper and more detailed visuals, you can wait for the upcoming console. On the other hand, if you don't mind potentially missing out on some future performance gains, and want to enjoy the games now with decent visuals and performance, go for PS5 or PS5 Slim.
