Initially the plan was to swing it and then, to make them hit it to the leg side. The fans here have been really great. Nice to repay the faith."

What an absolute cracker of a game to end the group stages! Welsh Fire are stuck to the bottom of the table.

Southern Brave couldn't have started off the chase better as Eskinazi fell for a duck in the first ball of the innings, owing to a sharp catch by du Plooy. Both openers were back in the hut within the first 5 balls of the chase as Smith struck one firmly to Jason Roy. Catches were being offered left, right and centre as Craig Overton could have taken 3 wickets in his first 6 balls as Abell was dropped by Jordan Thompson at the gully region. Fire were in tatters as Bairstow edged behind to become the 3rd wicket to fall in the 15th ball. It was the joint-lowest score in power play for Fire.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Benjamin Kellaway put up a very effective rearguard action, bringing their half century stand off only 24 balls, presenting an outside chance for Welsh Fire to produce a plot twist. Briggs did manufacture an opportunity when Kellaway mistimed a skier but James Vince tried tracking it over his shoulders but he could not pouch the relatively tough opportunity. Just a couple of balls later, Tom Kohler-Cadmore sent another one into the night sky. Roy and Vince kept looking at each other as the required action never arrived to make it 2 dropped catches within 3 balls.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore was on 44 then and soon after, he brought up his first 50 of the season, off only 28 balls as it was a clear game plan of targeting the spinners on a day when the Brave pacers had significantly pushed back the Fire at the start of the chase. There was a visible disparity between the bowling figures of the spinners and the pacers when you have a look at the bowling card of Southern Brave. The 81 runs from 39 balls stand between Benjamin Kellaway and Tom Kohler-Cadmore came to an end in the last ball of James Coles bowling - by that time he had conceded 45 runs off his left arm spin.

TKC went on to score his career best score in this competition, also the highest individual score at this venue, beating Matt Short's 73. But the pacers really pulled it back for the Brave at the end. Thompson had been very disciplined, not giving anything away after the spinners had leaked runs to the point that Welsh Fire had a real shot at winning the game. The fast bowlers decided not to pitch it up, mixed it up with the pace variations to strangulate TKC.
