It took 26 out of the 32 leagues stage matches for The Men's Hundred 2025 to have a team officially qualify for the knockouts. With London Spirit thumping Southern Brave at Lord's, Oval Invincibles and Northern Superchargers are now through to the playoffs.
Though, the interesting thing is that all other six teams have a chance of securing the remaining spot. Hence, expect them to give their all in the upcoming four matches.
That sets us up for some enthralling cricket in the upcoming days. Do join us for the remaining games. For now, it is the duo of Darpan Tikiya and Pradeep signing off.
Jamie Smith is the Player of the Match! Here's what he has to say: "Nice to get a win on the board in front of the great crowd. It was good to bat out there with short boundary on one side, but our batting hasn't come out well earlier, but we need to keep going and played well today. Warner has played some ridiculous innings in his career, it's good to have him in the side and the skipper played a fantastic innings too. Both fantastic players, with short boundaries it was tough, but we kept chipping away with wickets."
8:40 PM local time, 1:10 AM IST | London Spirit win by 47 runs. And as a result of this, Oval Invincibles and Northern Superchargers qualify for the playoffs.
Kane Williamson 56 (28) | Liam Dawson 3/23 Laurie Evans 37 (21) | Michael Bracewell 2/26
In what has been a start-stop season for London Spirit, this has been their most emphatic performance thus far. Being put into bat, they not only notched up their highest score of the season, but also the highest total made at Lord's in the tournament thus far.
Skipper Kane Williamson led the way for the home team with a high quality innings. Among others he took down the prima donna of the opposition's bowling attack — Jofra Archer. His imperious pull shot over midwicket in the 13th set and the delectable inside-out drive over backward point in the 17th were shots that would have made fans salivate.
Prior to that Jamie Smith set the tone with some powerful ball-striking. He took a few moments to get his eye in and then, started to unfurl some imposing shots that we have become accustomed to. There were smaller but valuable contributions made by Warner, Turner, Dickson and Jamie Overton too.
Brave were hampered by the injury to Reece Topley, who left the ground after hurting his shoulder at the end of the 6th set. The spin duo of Michael Bracewell and James Coles returned 3/48 off their combined 30 balls.
A spinner stole the show in the second innings. Liam Dawson's changes of pace were laudable and alterations of line and length smart. Interestingly, all three of his victims were out bowled. The biggest of them was undoubtedly Jason Roy — who looked in ominous touch during the course of his 23-ball-37. Post his dismissal, Laurie Evans blitzkrieg brought with it a second gush of hope for the visitors. However, neither could stay there till the end and take the team close.
Brave kept losing wickets at regular intervals and could not play out their 100 balls. Apart from Dawson, Richard Gleeson too impressed with a three-for while Jamie Overton finished with two wickets to his name — one of which was of his sibling Craig Overton.
Craig Overton has been dismissed for 5 runs off 6 balls
18.2 Jamie Overton to Craig Overton, OUT! BOWLED HIM! And, it's all over. Topley isn't coming out to bat and Spirit thump Brave here. Change of pace, back of a length on the stumps. Jamie gets Craig his brother. Craig has a big swing at it and misses, through to rattle the middle stump.
18.1 Jamie Overton to Craig Overton, pace off, short on off-stump. Overton with a one handed pull to long-leg and they get back for the brace.
18.1 Jamie Overton to Craig Overton, WIDE! Loses the radar, full and sprays it down the leg-side. Wide has been signaled.
Overton to bowl.
Guess what, Spirit have been penalised. They need to have an extra fielder inside the ring.
Time for our final change of ends. It is confirmed that Reece Topley will not come out to bat. Hence, it is only a matter of one wicket.
