Minecraft 1.21, also known as the Tricky Trials update, is likely still a handful of days away if its rumored June 7, 2024, release date is to be believed. However, there are plenty of things players can currently do in-game to keep themselves busy in the lead-up to the big launch. From prepping their game worlds to collecting specific resources, there's no lack of things to do to prepare.

Minecraft players are always free to prepare for the Tricky Trials update in the ways that suit them best. Be that as it may, if players could use a few pointers, it doesn't hurt to examine some of the recommended things worth doing as the wait for the 1.21 update continues.

5 things for players to do while they wait for Minecraft 1.21 Tricky Trials

1) Back up game worlds

Although Minecraft 1.21 isn't making any significant overhauls to the game's terrain generation, the addition of trial chambers means that players will begin finding them in new world chunks they explore. Any new chunk that a player explores could contain a trial chamber. While this likely won't cause issues, it doesn't hurt to play things safe and back up one's world all the same.

Just on the off chance that the 1.21 update creates some unintended problems, it's not a bad idea for players to back up any worlds they will be playing. This would ensure they have a fallback world in case things don't go as planned.

2) Gather quality gear

On the subject of Minecraft 1.21's trial chambers, these structures will contain plenty of new enemies to face, including the breeze and the bogged. Moreover, the revamped Bad Omen effect and the addition of ominous bottles can allow players to increase the challenge and rewards of trial chambers, so fans will want to prepare by collecting high-quality weapons and armor.

Players won't exactly need fully enchanted netherite armor to face the dangers of a trial chamber. However, the better a player's gear is going in, the less they should struggle with the structure's dangerous trial spawner blocks.

3) Get some honey bottles or milk buckets

Whether players are adventuring through a swamp or taking on a trial chamber in Minecraft 1.21, there's a good chance they'll run into a few bogged. While these mobs are relatively easy to deal with, like the skeletons they share similarities with, bogged do have the ability to fire poison arrows, and players will want to prepare accordingly. Fortunately, both milk buckets and bottles of honey can address this.

Milk buckets will remove any status effects on a player when consumed. Meanwhile, drinking a honey bottle will remove the Poison effect specifically. Honey bottles may be preferred in this case, as milk buckets will also remove positive status effects if they're applied to players.

4) Try out snapshots or previews

If players simply can't wait to try out the various parts of the Minecraft 1.21 update, they can open their launcher and install a Java snapshot or Bedrock preview. Though there are differences between the two, both options give players the ability to test out features from Tricky Trials as well as test new experimental tweaks and report any bugs that they might find.

While each Java snapshot or Bedrock preview is subject to change and not all of their adjustments will be seen as represented in Tricky Trials, they're still a great way to learn about the new content and mechanics in the update.

5) Stock up on redstone components

The addition of the crafter block in the 1.21 update will present plenty of new ways to utilize redstone and create new machines that can auto-craft what players need. Since this is the case, it doesn't hurt to stock up on redstone blocks and other components ahead of time, so players can start building machines with the crafter right away.

Even better, based on recent snapshots, witch farms will become much more viable for farming redstone dust, so players may want to construct a witch farm or two ahead of time.
