The much-anticipated Minecraft 1.20 update ushered in a wave of desired changes to our blocky realms, introducing new mobs like Sniffer and camels, customizable armor with trims, an archeology system, and more. While the excitement over 1.20 settles, the community eagerly looks to the future.

Among the array of announcements at Minecraft Live 2023, the one we were all hoping for has arrived – Minecraft 1.21. This update takes it up a notch, incorporating bold and flashy features, some of which were once thought exclusive to fan-made modpacks.

What is the Minecraft 1.21 Update and when will it be released?

The highly anticipated Minecraft 1.21 Tricky Trials update looms on the horizon, promising a wealth of fresh features and enhancements. While the official moniker remains shrouded in mystery, the prevailing expectation is that it will accentuate combat and tinkering elements. A spotlight of the update is the introduction of novel mobs, notably the Breeze—a hostile entity wielding wind-controlling prowess and a ranged wind projectile attack. Joining the roster is the bogged, a new variant of popular skeleton mobs who fires poisonous arrows.

Unveiled during a live event on October 15th, 2023, the Minecraft 1.21 update is set to release on June 13, 2024. Fans can expect Tricky Trials update to release around anywhere between 8 AM to 10 AM PDT. Mojang, the creative minds behind Minecraft, adheres to a bi-annual update rhythm, typically rolling out major updates every six months, though release dates are subject to change.

Beyond the influx of new mobs, the Minecraft 1.21 update will usher in an array of blocks and gameplay mechanics. Among them is the Crafter, a redstone-powered crafting station facilitating automated crafting. Additionally, the copper bulb emerges as a novel light source block, injecting a distinctive aesthetic flair into player builds.

However, the update's bounty stops short of unveiling a new biome, leaving players in suspense about potential biome additions.

Mobs

The Breeze

It is a hostile mob that presents the icy counterpart to the Blaze's fiery assaults. This creature, adorned in shades of blue and purple, features limbs and a head enshrouded in a vortex of swirling wind.

During attacks, the Breeze releases a wind energy projectile, creating a small explosion upon impact with a player or entity, inflicting mild damage and thrusting all entities backwards. Unlike its fiery counterpart, the Breeze navigates by leaping instead of floating.

Bogged

A new variation of the skeleton that shoots poisonous arrows and they have a chance of dropping Poison when killed by players. They naturally spawn in swamps and mangrove swamps while the mushrooms on its head can be sheared to give 1-2 brown mushrooms and 1-2 red mushrooms.

Mob Vote 2023 winner: Armadillo

Mojang revealed that the Mob Vote 2023 had three mobs with the crab, the armadillo, and the penguin put up for a vote. However, while the community wanted all three to be added, the official vote saw the Armadillo win the vote, which means that it will be a part of the upcoming 1.21 update. Although, for those that want to locate the Armadillo, you’ll be able to do so in the Savannah Biome.

Non-mob entities

Wind charge

This is fired by the breeze and by players who use the wind charge item, it explodes upon impact and knocks back entities in a similar fashion to a TNT explosion. The explosion also interacts with certain blocks, trapdoors and buttons as well. They can also be deflected like shulker bullets and deals damage when it hits a mob or a player.

Trial chambers

A new structure in the Overworld where players can take on new combat challenges as each layer is procedurally generated to include traps, reward chests and a wide variety of combat spaces. Supply chests can be found in each room alongside reward chests that are guarded by challenges and are usually a source of high level enchanted books and equipment.
