Caves are one of the most important parts of Minecraft's vast map. Half of the Overworld dimension is filled with all kinds of caves. Some are tiny and wind around the underground areas, while others are extremely massive. Some new players might have some issues finding caves in the game, even if they dig for a long time.

First, you need to understand the locations where caves generate in the most aggressive manner. In 2020 and 2021, Mojang released Caves and Cliffs updates where they changed the game's world generation. From those updates, the game generated much taller mountains, underneath which the game will create some of the largest caves possible in Minecraft.

Hence, to find larger caves with ease, you first need to find tall mountain biomes like Stony Peaks, Jagged Peaks, Grove, Snowy Peaks, Snowy Slopes, etc.

Once you find these mountains, start to find some holes or gaps that form on the mountain. These holes can be found at the foot, sides, or top of the mountain.

These holes will most likely lead you to a massive cave underneath them. For example, the image above shows a massive Deep Dark cave right underneath the Stony Peaks and the Savanna biome mountain.

If you are unable to find any large caves underneath the mountain, chances are that they have been generated in the deepslate area of the underground world.

Mining is one of the core gameplay features of Minecraft. You break countless stone blocks underneath the Overworld to find various valuable ores to progress in the game. Mining is also a great way to find caves in the game, especially branch mining.

In branch mining, you create a main mining tunnel, and then branch out left and right to cover more surface area in a certain Y level area. Though caves generate at any Y level below 64, they most commonly generate below Y level 60 and -40. Hence, if you want to find more caves to explore, you need to start branch mining between these Y levels.

You will not be able to find many new caves while mining for diamonds in particular because to get most diamonds, you need to branch mine at Y level -56, which is almost at the bottom of the Overworld.
