Seasonal celebrations in MMOs, such as Halloween events, are when the games’ self-contained universes cross over to real life and its festivities. Players are no longer confined to celebrating their favorite occasions with just their families, as gamers from around the world will be participating in festive-themed activities.

Halloween events often fill in-game worlds with a spooky atmosphere, which is accompanied by special quests rewarding nightmarish costumes, ghostly mounts, experience bonuses, and more.

This article lists the events in MMOs that perfectly encapsulate the spirit of Halloween in their virtual worlds.

5 most fun Halloween events in MMOs

1) Shadow of the Mad King - Guild Wars 2

Events are regarded as a specialty in Guild Wars 2. They introduce many game modes, which offer loot and currencies that can be traded for Halloween goodies.

In the Shadow of the Mad King event, players engage in challenging activities like the Clock Tower jumping puzzles and Mad King Says (a spin-off of Simon Says), as well as a few PvP modes like the MOBA-inspired Reaper's Rumble and Lunatic Inquisition.

Mad King's Labyrinth is a great place for leveling characters as players form groups to battle hoards of undead armies from the Mad King's Realm. They are rewarded with Trick-or-Treat Bags that can be traded for gold or opened for Halloween goodies and an ultra-rare chance of receiving expensive infusions.

2) Festival of the Lost - Destiny 2

Festival of the Lost brings plenty of new additions to Destiny 2, enticing players to participate in this Halloween event for lucrative rewards. Those interested can equip a festival mask from event vendor Eva Levante to participate.

Players can obtain Exotic Armors from a limited pool in exchange for Eerie Engrams and Candies. Candies can be farmed by participating in the Festival's Bounties. There are also multiple new event-themed weapons, like the heart-covered Heavy Grenade Launcher Acosmic, that can be earned by capturing Haunted Sectors while wearing the festival mask.

Haunted Sectors are back as the main activity for the event, along with a new Legend difficulty. They offer players a much higher chance of receiving Eerie Engrams. However, the most anticipated reward from the Festival of the Lost is the new All-Black Memento that can be earned by completing different Triumph challenges.

3) Witches Festival - The Elder Scrolls Online

During the Witches Festival Halloween event in The Elder Scrolls Online, players receive a 100% boost to experience gain for the entire duration. The event quest can be acquired from the Crown Store, and upon completion, players receive a Witchmother's Whistle. Players can transform themselves into a spooky skeleton if they drink from the Witchmother's Cauldron, summoned by blowing the Whistle.

Different rarities of Plunder Skulls provide a variety of loot, which can be obtained by defeating bosses in the world. Event Tickets are the main currency of the Witches Festival and can be collected at a rate of two tickets per day. These Tickets can be exchanged with the Impresario for rare mounts, furnishings, emotes, and various other limited-period items.

Nights of Naberus is a Halloween event in Warframe that is accessible to players after they have unlocked the Necralisk on Deimos.

During the event, Mother Tokens farmed by doing bounties can be traded with the Daughter on Deimos in exchange for a variety of items. Goodies include the new Gammacor Day of the Dead Skin, the haunting Lua Nights Glyph, beautiful Taunting Tam and Frightening Flock Emblems in reverence to Duviri, and a variety of new sigils.

The different Ephemeras and old goodies from the previous year's event make a return to the shop, encouraging players to grab the items they missed.

5) All Saint's Wake - Final Fantasy 14

Final Fantasy 14 has a different take on Halloween events arriving each year with a unique story quest adding to the world of Eorzea. Not many details have been revealed regarding the event, which begins on October 27, as it can spoil the story. However, an all-new emote, called All Saint's Charm, and Wall-mounted Vampire Bats were confirmed as some of the rewards.

Furthermore, a new game mode like an instanced dungeon with unique mechanics can be expected based on the prior Halloween events in the game. These activities usually reward players with currencies that can be traded for some Halloween-themed goodies.
