WoW The War Within: How to easily farm Profaned Tinderbox

The Profaned Tinderbox is a rare crafting resource in WoW The War Within, despite the tooltip saying it’s a “standard issue” for all Arathi. Despite it being standard issue, they appear to be very hard to come by. That’s unfortunate, considering how many crafting professions require it for their recipes. While there’s only one known guaranteed place to get one, there is a way to reliably farm it, if you want to try your luck.

Leatherworking, Enchanting, and Blacksmithing all use the Profaned Tinderbox in WoW The War Within, and buying them is not cheap. On my home server (Bloodscalp), they’re going for roughly 8.7K apiece on the Auction Hall, and the prices are not set to go down anytime soon. However, if you want to try farming them, here’s what we recommend.

Where to easily farm WoW The War Within’s Profaned Tinderbox

WoW The War Within’s Profraned Tinderbox item has a guaranteed drop in the Nightfall Sanctum Delve of WoW The War Within (33.54, 47.42). This guaranteed drop appears to be account-wide, and there is only one per account. It’s also not found in the final chests of the dungeon. You can actually pick it up before fighting the final bosses.

It's found in the Sturdy Chest (38.4 73.8), right before you tackle the final boss of the Delve. You can see the chest in the screenshot above. It’s out of the way, so you might not even see it unless you explore the entire Delve. The best part about this guaranteed drop of the Profaned Tinderbox is that you can pick it up even on Tier 1 of the Delve.

This isn’t the only time it can drop in this Delve, though. Any time Brann Bronzebeard Fishes, Mines, or uses Herbalism, he has a chance to find one of these Profaned Tinderboxes for you. This is not a guarantee, but bringing someone that has all three of these professions locked can increase your chances.

You can also find Profaned Tinderboxes in the final treasure chests of the Delve once you’ve defeated the bosses. We found a second one in a Tier 1 Delve run, in addition to the one that dropped from the Sturdy Chest. While this item can drop from any chest in this expansion, the best place is in Nightfall Sanctum.

If you’re trying to farm them, we recommend going no higher than Tier 3 — Tier 1 is the fastest — and grinding the Sanctum over and over. Don’t skip any of the Mining/Fishing/Herbalism nodes if you have those professions learned, and make sure you have turned on tracking for those, just in case.

Currently, we don’t know if the Sturdy Chest will respawn. However, we do know for sure it’s not a daily respawn. That said, we’ll check back after the server reset and update if it can be picked up every week.
