
Charles ‘Red’ Farmer is an American motorsport driver who has defied age by racing well beyond his time. Farmer was born on October 15, 1932, and is 91 years old, as of June 2024. As per recent reports, Farmer suffered a stroke, leading him to miss out on attending the Daytona 500 in February 2024. Eddie Roachie, a NASCAR insider shared the news of Farmer’s stroke on Facebook, adding that the legendary driver is recovering well. The Alabama Gang Member, as per Wikipedia (April 6, 2024), competes part-time in 602 Crate Dirt Late Models in his No. F97 Ford Mustang.
Farmer started racing at the Opa-Locka Speedway near Miami, Florida in 1948. He has raced 36 NASCAR Cup Series races from 1953 to 1975 and has won several local track championships. According to Wikipedia, Farmer has experienced victories ranging from 700-900 in his decades of professional racing. Farmer debuted in the Cup Series in 1953 at Daytona Beach with his last race in 1975 at Talladega 500. Although he did not win any races in the top division, he bagged three top-10s and came fourth at the 1968 Middle Georgia 500 and the 1972 Talladega 500. Farmer was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2021 along with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mike Stefanik and was presented with his Hall of Fame ring by fellow member Tony Stewart, who called Farmer a racer’s racer.
