Richard Petty is the legend of NASCAR whose legacy will survive the test of time. He is a 2010 NASCAR Hall of Famer. Petty is considered the greatest NASCAR driver of all time and has the statistical records to back the claim.

One of the most notable moments in Petty’s career came when in 1965 NASCAR made Petty’s engine #45 Plymouth’s illegal leading him to drop out for a season. When he returned in 1966, he won 27 races in the season, a record which is unmatched till date (as of March 2024).

Referred to as The King, Petty has had a career spanning decades of consistent and impressive performances. Despite retiring in 1992, Petty has remained a strong force on the NASCAR scene.

Richard Petty has won 200 races throughout his career.

This makes him the driver with the most race wins. His first race win came in the 1960 season where he finished 2nd overall in the championship. This was also his first season driving full time and he won three races during the season.

Out of his 200 race wins, most of them come from short tracks (128 of them). He has won the Daytona 500, seven times. His most single-track wins come at Martinsville Speedway and North Wilkesboro Speedway. He has 15 wins at each of the tracks.
