Gene Haas founded Haas Automation in 1983, which has grown to become one of the largest builders of CNC machine tools in North America. Born in Ohio, he moved to Los Angeles with his family during his youth. There, Haas worked various jobs, including delivering newspapers and working in machine shops, where he developed a knowledge of machining. He graduated from California State University in 1975 with a degree in accounting and finance. He switched to business due to concerns about job stability in the engineering field. In 1983, Haas founded Haas Automation and the rest is history.

Haas entered NASCAR in 2002 with his team. After a few years, he entered into a partnership with Tony Stewart and together they formed the Stewart-Haas racing. In addition to motorsports, Haas is involved in Formula One through his ownership of the Haas F1 Team.
