Lance Archer: A Brief Biography

Lance Hoyt is an American professional wrestler signed with AEW. He is best known for his work in NJPW, AEW, and Independent Circuit. He is a former two-time IWGP United States Champion.

Professional Wrestling Career


Independent Circuit (2000-2009)


In 2000, Hoyt began his professional wrestling career and started working in the texas Independent Circuit. After wrestling in Texas for about fours years, Hoyt joined TNA. In his first year, Hoty won the NWA Tag Team Championships with Kid Kash on two occasions. In 2005, Hoyt introduced a new gimmick of Hoytamania and feuded with Team Canada.

He later formed a tag team with Jimmy Rave called The Rock 'n Rave Infection. The team worked until Hoyt's release in 2009.


WWE (2009-2010)


In 2009, Hoyt joined WWE and began working for FCW. Later, Hoyt was reamed as Lance Archer and moved to ECW. On SmackDown, he teamed up with Curt Hawkins and began working in the tag team division. After a few wins, they released Hoyt by the end of the year.

Independent Circuit (2011-2020)


In 2011, Archer made his NJPW debut and joined the Suzuki-Gun. Archer took part in the G1 Climax twice but failed to win the tournament. Archer formed a tag team with Davey Boy Smith as Killer Elite Squad and won the IWGP Tag Team Championship on two separate occasions. Later, the team won the NWA World Tag Team Championship. Archer spent the remaining years participating in the G1 Climax.


After spending two years in NOAH and GFW, Archer returned to NJPW and reformed KES. At Destruction at Kobe, KES won the IWGP Tag Team Championship for the third time. Later, the team made two appearances at ROH. In 2019, Archer became a singles competition and defeated Juice Robinson to win the IWGP United States Championship. Upon Moxley's return, Archer lost the title to Moxley in a Texas deathmatch.

AEW (2020-Present)


In 2020, Archer signed a full-time deal with AEW and entered the TNT Championship tournament. At Double or Nothing, he faced Cody Rhodes in the finals and lost. At All Out, he became the number one contender for the AEW World Championship. Later, Archer faced Moxley at the AEW anniversary show for the AEW World Championship and lost. By the end of the year, he began feuding with Eddie Kingston and lost.


In 2021, he faced Miro at Double or Nothing for the TNT Championship and lost. At AEW Fyter Fest, Archer defeated Moxley in a Texas deathmatch to win his second IWGP United States Championship. Archer spent his time with AEW and NJPW. In 2022, Archer returned and turned heel by attacking Adam Page. In February, he faced Page in a Texas deathmatch and lost.
