Lando Norris is a British Racing driver currently competing in Formula One with Mclaren. He won the MSA Formula championship in 2015. In 2016, he won the Toyota Racing Series, Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, and Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup. He also received the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award in 2016. He subsequently won the 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship and was runner-up to George Russell in the 2018 Formula 2 Championship.

Biography

Born on 13 November 1999 in Bristol, Norris is the son of Adam Norris, one of Bristol’s richest people. His mother Cisca is from the Flanders region of Belgium. Norris was educated at Millfield School in Street, Somerset. Norris always looked at Valentino Rossi as an inspiration and currently resides in Woking, close to Mclaren’s headquarters.

Racing Career

Norris started competitive karting at the age of seven and would progress to win the CIK-FIA KF World Championship in 2014. In 2015, he would win the MSA Formula Series and also make occasional appearances in the ADAC Formula 4 championship. In 2016, he would win the Toyota Racing Series, Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, and Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup and then graduate to the Formula 3 European Championship and win that in 2017. Norris would then compete in the Formula 2 Championship where he won the very first race of the championship. He would come close to winning the title but the honors would go to George Russell at the end of the season. It was announced at this time that Norris would be driving for Mclaren in the 2019 season alongside Carlos Sainz.

Formula One

Mclaren(2019-Present)

Lando Norris made his debut with Mclaren in the 2019 season. In his very first season, Norris would show an impressive turn of pace as he would outqualify Carlos Sainz, 11-10, throughout the season, His racecraft would still need some improvement as he would finish the season 11th in the championship with 49 points as compared to 96 points for his teammate.

Norris would make further improvements in the 2020 season that would feature him getting the first podium of his career at the Austrian Grand Prix. He would finish the season 9th in the championship just 8 points behind his teammate in what would be a marked improvement from the previous season.

The 2021 F1 season saw Lando Norris team up with Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren and take the next step in terms of pace. The driver was expected to be the understudy of the Australian as Ricciardo was eyed as the team leader. Unfortunately for Daniel, that did not happen as Lando blew him out of the water from the very first race. The gap in performance between the two drivers was apparent from the very first race but what was even more interesting to see was how well Norris battled the frontrunners. For a change, McLaren had a car capable of fighting for podiums that season and Norris capitalized. In his most prolific season to date, Norris secured 4 podiums and a pole position.

In the 2022 F1 season, McLaren dropping the ball in terms of car concept meant that Norris could not replicate the heroics of the 2021 F1 season. He was a consistent points scorer throughout the season but only once in Imola was he able to secure a podium for the team. His dominance of Daniel Ricciardo only got magnified in the worse car and by the time the 2022 F1 season was done, Ricciardo was out of the team. The points standings showed a gaping difference between the two drivers' performances as well. Norris secured a total of 122 points while Ricciardo only had 37 points to his name.

The 2023 F1 season has seen Lando Norris team up with young driver Oscar Piastri. After a stuttering start to the season, McLaren's mid-season upgrade has reaped massive benefits and now the team have become a podium contender. Norris already have two podiums to his name and will be hoping to get a few more in the second half of the season.
