Sgt. Slaughter: A Brief Biography

Robert Rudolph Remus is an American retired professional wrestler best known for his work with WWE as Sgt. Slaughter. He is a former WWF Champion and a WWE Hall of Famer.

Professional Wrestling Career


Early Years (1972-1983)


In 1972, Remus began his professional wrestling career, where he won numerous championships in promotions such as NWA and AWA. In 1980, Remus had a quick run in WWF, where he feuded with Bob Backlund and Pat Patterson and lost. In 1981, Remus won the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship. Later, he won the NWA World Tag Team Championship with Don Kernodle.


WWF (1983-1984, 1990-1991, 1997-1998)


In 1983, Slaughter returned to WWF and began feuding with Bob Backlund. After Backlund, Slaughter began feuding with The Iron Shiek and won. Slaughter left the company due to a conflict with Vince McMahon. In 1990, Slaughter returned to WWF as a heel and joined forces with General Adnan and Colonel Mustafa. At Royal Rumble, Slaughter defeated The Ultimate Warrior to win the WWF Championship.

At WrestleMania VII, Hogan defeated Slaughter to win the WWF Championship. Slaughter and company feuded with Hogan and Warrior for months. At SummerSlam, Hogan and Warrior defeated Slaughter, Adnan, and Mustafa. In 1997, Slaughter returned to WWF as the commissioner of RAW. Initially, he feuded with DX before joining Vince McMahon.

Independent Circuit (1985-1990, 1991-1994, 2014)


After leaving WWF, Slaughter went back to AWA, where he received a major push and became the champion. Slaughter spent most of his time in various matches and feuds during his run on the independent circuit.


WWE (2004-Present)


In 2004, Slaughter returned to face Randy Orton and lost. Slaughter made several sporadic appearances on RAW and SmackDown and major shows such as WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, and Royal Rumble. He also made special appearances on RAW and SmackDown's anniversary shows. In 2004, Slaughter was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
