Willson Contreras, a Major League Baseball catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, was born in Venezuela on May 13, 1992. Contreras enrolled in a Chicago Cubs baseball program in Venezuela when he was sixteen. He made his professional debut with the DSL Cubs after signing with the Cubs in 2009 as an international free agent. On June 17, 2016, the club promoted him to the main leagues.

When Willson Conteras committed to the St. Louis Cardinals prior to the 2023 season, he signed a contract that would keep him there through at least the 2027 season, and his career took a new path. During his productive time with the Cubs, he won a World Series and was selected for three All-Star games. Willson Contreras’ Early Life

In 2009, Contreras signed a contract as an international free agent with the Chicago Cubs. That year, he debuted professionally with the Cubs of the Dominican Summer League. At seventeen, he batted .205 in 29 games. At eighteen, he batted .313 in 17 games with them in 2010. He was a player with the Boise Hawks between 2011 and 2012.

After joining the Daytona Cubs in 2014 and the Kane County Cougars in 2013, Contreras played for the Tennessee Smokies in 2015. Selected as the Cubs Minor League Player of the Year in 2015, he hit eight home runs and had a batting average of .333/.413/.478.
