After the actor was detained, the woman who had accused Jonathan Majors of assault allegedly withdrew her claim in writing, according to an attorney for the actor. The Los Angeles Times reported that Majors' attorney, Priya Chaudhry, and her staff have “two written statements from the woman recanting these allegations.” Jonathan Majors was taken into custody on Saturday in New York on charges of assault, harassment, and strangulation. Majors was detained, according to the police, after officers responded to a 911 call from an apartment building in New York City. According to a statement from the NYPD, Majors and a 30-year-old woman who claimed to have been assaulted got into a “domestic dispute.” The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with minor head and neck injuries, though she recovered by morning.


According to Chaudhry, her client “is completely innocent and probably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows.” Soon after his arrest, Chaudhry released a statement in which he claimed that the woman “was having an emotional crisis, for which she was taken to the hospital.” Furthermore, Majors “did not assault her whatsoever.”

Majors' team claimed they were “quickly gathering and presenting evidence,” incorporating video from “the vehicle where this episode took place” and evidence presented by witnesses, to the district attorney, and anticipating the dismissal of the charges. According to the New York Times, in March 2023, a judge granted a limited order of protection and mandated Majors' release on his own recognizance.


On December 18th, 2023, a six-person jury decided after deliberating for more than four hours over three days. The rest of his family and girlfriend, Meagan Good, were behind him. The sentencing is scheduled for February 6th. The charges, which are classified as a misdemeanor and a violation, have the potential to result in a prison sentence of up to one year. On two additional charges, he was found not guilty of intentional assault in the third degree and aggravated harassment in the second degree.


The actor’s attorney, Priya Chaudhry, said, “Majors looks forward to fully clearing his name,” suggesting he may file an appeal after the verdict. She continued, “Mr. Majors is grateful to God, his family, his friends, and his fans for their love and support during these harrowing eight months.” The actor was dropped from the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films after the verdict was read.
