5 WWE stories that could do with some tweaking

Where does he go from here?

King BarrettWWE is a massive wrestling organisation. In all honesty, nobody is close. The sheer scale of the company is beyond the reach of any other wrestling promotion, and with that comes good and bad. While WWE create some of the purest and finest storytelling there is, evident with Daniel Bryan’s eight month struggle and many more, there are also some instances where the other side of the coin is shown. Some stories lack reason, effort, they seem like they were thrown together out of desperation. This article looks at five of the current WWE storylines that could do with a little tweaking to make them more coherent.

#1 What is happening with King Barrett?

Where does he go from here?

There have been many King Of The Ring winners in the past. A lot of them have gone on to achieve greatness. Most notably, Stone Cold Steve Austin was the King Of The Ring winner in 1996 and his career kickstarted after that triumph.

King Booker has arguably been the most famous winner, along with other names such as Sheamus, Jerry Lawler, Ted Dibiase, Randy Savage, Bret Hart, Triple H and many more.

That’s why it appeared as if Wade Barrett had a great run ahead of him when he defeated fellow Brit Neville in the final of the 2015 King Of The Ring tournament.

Although looking dominant initially, Barrett would go on to lose the Intercontinental Championship Elimination Chamber match, and then get pushed down to the pre-show of Money In The Bank, where he jobbed to R-Truth. As of now, he is directionless, and one has to wonder if he only won the King Of The Ring tournament for the gimmick.

#2 Are Fandango and Adam Rose even wrestlers?

How was this even thought of?

When Fandango debuted in 2013, he looked set for a bright future after he defeated Chris Jericho in his debut at WrestleMania, and had the crowd behind his back. However, that didn’t last long as his run fell flat and now, he has simply been reduced to switching dancing partners every now and then.

Initially, Fandango was with Summer Rae but that didn’t last long as he would go on to ‘break up’ with her and introduce a new partner, Layla. After a short run, where he was the centre of a feud between the two women, Rosa Mendez became his new partner, who he turned on this year, and now not only is Fandango partnerless, but directionless too.

Shifting our focus to Adam Rose, the gimmick was pretty big on NXT and was over with the fans. This didn’t carry on to the main roster though, as Rose’s party crew were not helping him receive popularity.

What happened next? Rose would begin a slow heel turn in which his main rival was a ‘somebody’ in a bunny suit. Sadly, even that bunny was put over. Soon enough, this ended and Rose was written off television to return recently and begin an on-screen relationship with Rosa Mendez for no apparent reason. ESPN’s incredible documentary on Rose’s life was supposed to be a career-changing break for him but WWE has shown no sign of pushing Rose.

Is there any hope for either man?

#3 Why is Brock Lesnar Seth Rollins\' challenger?

Brock Lesnar after winning at the Royal Rumble

This is a story that, in essence, is quite popular, and many are looking forward to the match at Battleground.

However, at its core, the story makes very little sense.

Of course, Brock Lesnar does have his rematch clause to invoke for his championship, but the rest of the pieces do not fit into the puzzle correctly.

After Seth Rollins escaped with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania, the next night on Raw, Brock Lesnar wanted his rematch immediately. Stephanie McMahon surprisingly granted him the match, but Seth Rollins said he was feeling a bit of ‘jetlagged’ and decided to run for it.

After Rollins escaped again, Lesnar destroyed everything in his sight ranging from the announcing table to a cameraman, F5-ing even Michael Cole in the process. Stephanie McMahon then suspended Lesnar indefinitely.

On the post-Money In The Bank RAW show, Triple H named Brock Lesnar as the no.1 contender to Rollins’ WWE World Heavyweight Championship. This already is questionable as Rollins is supposed to be protected by The Authority, but looking past that, there are a couple of other reasons.

Firstly, the only thing Brock Lesnar had to do to relieve him of his suspension was to apologise to Michael Cole. For everything he did, all Triple H and Stephanie McMahon wanted was for him to apologise.

Then again, on the closing segment, The Authority, who wanted Lesnar to be the challenger for Rollins’ championship, attacked Lesnar on Raw.

Contradicting angles which make us ask, what should we believe?

#4 Are the Bella twins heel or face?

Heels in this picture, or are they?

To start this entry, forget the Bella Twins feud last year. After costing her a match at SummerSlam and saying things like “I wish you died in the womb”, Brie Bella has now completely forgiven her sister.

Since Survivor Series last year, Nikki Bella has been atop the Divas division and hasn’t stepped down. Initially, she was a heel, until after WrestleMania, when she suddenly became a babyface (as well as her sister), in a feud with Naomi.

After this, the twins would remain babyface until their match with Naomi and Tamina at Payback, and when Paige returned on Raw the next night, Nikki Bella was suddenly tweener. She was squashed between a certain heel and face.

After this, she would feud with Paige alone, where Twin Magic indicated that she was a heel now. When Paige was absent from television due to Tough Enough appearances, the Bella Twins turned babyface all over again with no reason to begin another feud with Naomi and Tamina.

It’s difficult to choose between booing or cheering for the Bellas.

#5 WWE Japan Special: Brock Lesnar vs Kofi Kingston?

An obvious wasted opportunity

Brock Lesnar is arguably the biggest thing that WWE have at their disposal right now. What makes him even a bigger draw is that he has a limited number of appearances every year and WWE would always make the most of what they can have with “The Beast Incarnate.”

So, logically, the best thing for WWE to do in one of Lesnar’s matches is to have him face Kofi Kingston. What were they thinking?

Surely, this match is only for Lesnar to look stronger than he already is. But why would they use Kofi Kingston? This isn’t a statement that undermines Kingston’s abilities in any way. He is indeed a very talented worker and a great wrestler, but realistically, this could have been re-assessed.

If they wanted a squash match, they could have at least made Lesnar tear apart someone who could actually pose a threat to him. Or they could have even had him win a competitive match against somebody like Sheamus, anything except somebody who we all know will be demolished in the match.
