WWE SummerSlam 2015: Full match card analysis and predictions

Rusev vs. Dolph Ziggler

The UndertakerThe biggest wrestling show of the summer is just days away and WWE is hell bound on promoting the same. Placing an NXT special right before SummerSlam was not probably the best of ideas but this might push WWE to deliver the goods on Sunday night. The four-hour show has ten matches on its card and there is a great buzz surrounding almost all of them. The battle between Brock Lesnar and Undertaker will be the ticket seller from the pack and it is going to be one hell of a match as well. Now that the match card is complete, it would be a great time to analyze what WWE is going to serve and come up with the predictions for the pay-per-view. So here goes:

#10 Dolph Ziggler vs. Rusev

Rusev vs. Dolph Ziggler

This match is not only about Dolph Ziggler and Rusev. There will be heavy involvement from Lana and Summer Rae throughout the match and we could see a full blown catfight ringside. Ziggler and Rusev are great in-ring performers but the wrestling is expected to take a backseat. Ziggler might be rusty after the long break and will have to work around this rustiness.

Despite this, Ziggler is the favorite to win here. Lana has been on the receiving side till now and it would only be fitting to give her a moment to cherish at SummerSlam. Rusev getting the win would go down as a surprise since the baby faces are desperate for some momentum right now.

Prediction: Ziggler wins.

#9 Team Bella vs. Team BAD vs. PCB

PCB vs. Team Bella vs. BAD

The success of the Diva revolution would rely heavily on this match. All the nine divas involved in the storyline will be getting the spotlight at SummerSlam, but three divas, in particular will rise above the rest. The elimination matches have always created stars and this one will be no different. But the only question is: Which team will it be?

Team Bella is clearly out of the scenario as they don’t boast a new diva. From the remaining two teams, PCB has the upper hand. Charlotte and Becky Lynch have been excellent so far and Paige also deserves a win at this point. On the other hand, letting team BAD win will only benefit Sasha Banks.

Prediction: PCB wins.

#8 Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro

Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro

The match between Kevin Owens and Cesaro might not have the mainstream appeal of the other matches, but this is guaranteed to be a treat for the wrestling fans. Both Cesaro and Owens know how to win over the crowd with their wrestling skills and with a stage like SummerSlam at their disposal; they have everything working for them.

The lack of a championship on the line does hurt the match a bit, but this allows WWE to bank on the personal friction between Owens and Cesaro. Cesaro is attracting a lot of positive feedback for his babyface run and he is likely to get one over Owens at SummerSlam.

Prediction: Cesaro wins.

#7 Stephen Amell and Neville vs. Stardust and King Barrett

Stephen Amell and Neville vs. Stardust and Bad News Barrett

Most of the WWE fans will see this as just another Celebrity match that WWE uses to attract mainstream attention. Mainstream attention is indeed a motive but WWE could prove their fans wrong if they come up with an intelligent booking for Amell. The television star was seen training hard for the match and since he is a big fan of the wrestling business, we might get one or two surprises at the show on Sunday.

King Barrett would have to do something spectacular to stand out as he was dragged into the feud at the last minute. Amell and Neville will come out with the win comfortably because that’s how WWE rolls.

Prediction: Amell and Neville win.

#6 Prime Time Players vs. Los Matadores vs. New Day vs. Lucha Dragons (Tag Team Championships)

Prime Time Players vs. Los Matadores vs. New Day vs. Lucha Dragons

The tag team division has clearly taken a big blow due to injuries and split ups. WWE has lined up the remaining teams from the depleted division for SummerSlam and the championship will be on the line as well. Prime Time Players comes into the same as champions and are the favorites to walk out as champions.

Los Matadores has no momentum whatsoever to win the title and the same applies for Lucha Dragons. New Day will look like credible champions if they win but then again, a multiple team match is not the best place to crown them champions. All these factors make Prime Time Players the favorite in the bout.

Prediction: Prime Time Players retain titles.

#5 Randy Orton vs. Sheamus

Randy Orton vs. Sheamus

The Randy Orton vs. Sheamus feud will get another pay-per-view spot at SummerSlam. The feud is driven purely on the personal friction between the two men and WWE did not bother adding the Money in the Bank briefcase to the mix. WWE will have a tough time keeping the fans interested in the match although it is expected to be a physical affair.

Sheamus is desperate to get a win at this moment, but the chance of this is pretty low. Sheamus does not need a win to stay relevant thanks to the briefcase and this might force WWE to book Orton as the winner. And this opens the door for possible cash in later in the night.

Prediction: Randy Orton wins.

#4 Wyatt family vs. Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose

Wyatt Family vs. Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose

This match might not sound like much, but it has a lot of potential. First of all, WWE is trying to put over Roman Reigns as a baby face and teaming him up with Dean Ambrose was the perfect decision. Secondly, we know how good these four men are in tag team matches. Thirdly and most importantly, it is the perfect occasion for a heel turn.

Dean Ambrose could turn on Reigns at SummerSlam and start a feud that would keep everyone rooted to the television. If WWE is not going to pull off a full blown turn, they could show signs of it as well. In case there is no twist in the tale, the baby faces are going to come out as the winners.

Prediction: Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose win.

#3 Ryback vs. Big show vs. The Miz (Intercontinental Championship)

Big Show vs. Ryback vs. Miz

The Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Championship will finally happen at SummerSlam. Ryback goes into the match as a fighting champion who is currently projected as someone who fought through injury to be at the show. Big Show, on the other hand, is considered to be the real threat for Ryback with his imposing size and power.

Miz, meanwhile, will be the entertainment. The dynamics for the part are well interwoven by the bookers and they need to come up with great execution to make it a success. Ryback is likely to retain the championship as he has been a comparatively solid champion till now.

Prediction: Ryback wins.

#2 John Cena vs. Seth Rollins (WWE and United States Championship)

John Cena vs. Seth Rollins

The John Cena vs. Seth Rollins match might not be headlining SummerSlam, but it will have paramount importance. Both the United States Championship and the WWE Championship is up for grabs at the show and there are no clear favorites here. The WWE Universe would love to see Rollins hold both the championships at the same time, but that is not going to happen.

Cena winning the WWE championship would attract a lot of negative reaction, so it is basically a deadlock from WWE’s point of view. The best possible escape route for WWE is an ending where both the superstars retain their championship. It could be a disqualification ending but no matter what happens; the titles will probably remain unchanged.

Prediction: Both Superstars retain titles.

#1 Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker

This is ‘the’ match to watch out for at SummerSlam. Undertaker and Brock Lesnar will be locking horns for the first time after their WrestleMania 30 battle and we can expect some fireworks from the duo. WWE has projected Undertaker differently so far. Taker just wants to get revenge for what Lesnar did at WrestleMania and he might go to extreme limits for the same.

As far as the result is concerned, Undertaker is the favorite. The score is in favor of Lesnar right now and WWE is likely to level it up at SummerSlam so that they could have a much bigger rubber match in the future. We have to tune into the show to know how Undertaker will win it and if WWE comes up with any other finish, then we are in for a big surprise.

Prediction: Undertaker wins.
