10 Dream matches that WWE fans never got to see

“A match between these two would be just……Awesome” (awesome with a capital ‘a’ is for a reason) almost every wrestling fan would’ve had this thought at least once in their life time because after all those criticisms, disappointments, Goosebumps, tears and happiness, wrestling managed to make us dreamers. We often fantasize about what all matches we wanted to see instead of the ones that WWE was giving us and some materialize in real life while others remains as a dream that will sting forever. There are a handful of such matches that we fans never got to see in the WWE squared circle even though they would’ve been a sure shot success story. So here is a look at some dream scenarios that eluded us till now.

#11 Honorable Mentions: John Cena vs. Hulk Hogan and Shelton Benjamin vs. Cesaro

The reason why John Cena vs. Hulk Hogan doesn’t top the list despite boasting two big names is because it’s a distant dream, unlike the other ones. Cena and Hogan belonged to two different eras and even if they had a wrestling match, it would’ve been horrible.

Shelton Benjamin vs. Cesaro, on the other hand, is an instant show stealer. They have actually faced each other a couple of times in the Indy circuit but all those were tag team matches.

#10 AJ Lee vs Lita

The photos of a young AJ Lee that cried when she saw her idol is no stranger to the WWE Universe (Though AJ stole Litas boyfriend afterwards). It was Lita that inspired AJ into becoming a professional wrestler and that is enough to build a good enough storyline between the two.

AJ has been often touted as the modern age Lita multiple times and thats because both divas revolutionalised the division they belonged to.

There arent many dream divas match for the WWE fans but this one surely has the pedigree and hype to push the women back into where they deserve to be. Make Trish Stratus the guest referee and itll be hard for the fans to take their eyes off.

#9 Dolph Ziggler vs Shawn Michaels

If any superstar set the bar in wrestling for selling, it was Shawn Michaels and if any superstar managed to reach that level, it was Dolph Ziggler. Okay, Seth Rollins is also a great name when it comes to selling but Ziggler is on a different level.

Both Ziggler and Michaels are smart performers when it comes to the in ring action and would have no trouble in putting together a master piece between them.

Michaels decision to keep his word and never wrestle again is the only hurdle that keeps this match from happening as the Heart Break Kid still has a handful of matches left in him physically.

#8 Kurt Angle vs Daniel Bryan

youtube-cover

Every hardcore wrestling fan out there would die to see this match. Kurt Angle has said many times about wanting to face Bryan if he returns to WWE. Bryan hasnt shied away from praising Angle and that is because both men know how good they could be.

Their styles are barely distinguishable and there wouldnt be any lack of chemistry as well. Angles run in TNA made this match wait till now and since he signed a new deal with the sinking ship, the fans might have to wait a big longer.

And when it comes to Bryan, his days as a wrestler are getting numbered and it would be a wonder if he sticks around the wrestling business for another year without breaking something.

#7 Shawn Michaels vs Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar is the beast that could destroy anyone in his path. Shawn Michaels is an underdog who doesnt have the size or strength to go against Lesnar. Its a perfect angle on the paper and will surely be an even better one in reality.

Remember the match that Lesnar had with Eddie Guerrero back in 2004? This one will turn out to be something similar. Michaels is one of those rare superstars who could make anyone look like a star and Lesnar would be no exception.

However, since Lesnar is a bit short on the promo side, Paul Heyman should also be in the storyline to provide a much needed layer. If Michaels ever comes out of retirement, then Lesnar should be his opponent hands down.

#6 Chris Benoit vs Daniel Bryan

If WWE ever makes a list of dream matches that we didnt see, this one wouldnt probably make it there even though it deserves to be and the reason? No points for guessing, Chris Benoit.

The Rabid Wolverine busted his rear for nearly two decades in the wrestling ring and WWE decided to wipe him out of existence for the deeds he did in three days time. Granted that he did a big mistake but no one can ever take away the hard work that Benoit used to put into his profession.

Daniel Bryan has mentioned numerous times about how Benoit inspired him and since these two superstars had identical styles in the squared circle it wouldve been a five star match.

#5 Bray Wyatt or Dean Ambrose vs Mick Foley

youtube-cover

The reason why WWE decided to run an angle between Bray Wyatt and Dean Ambrose is because of the striking similarities between the two. Both are insane unpredictable guys who could go to any limit to make a statement without caring about the result.

Know anyone else who does the same? If you dont, then meet Mick Foley. The Hardcore Legend had all the traits of Ambrose and Bray Wyatt while being a unique performer in the microphone himself.

WWE initially wanted to pit Ambrose against Foley for his debut, but that was pulled out since the Lunatic fringe went a bit too far with the character. Add in some hardcore stipulation into the mix and the match will blow the roof off.

#4 Kurt Angle vs Bret Hart

Ever wanted to see a technical master piece in between the WWE ropes? This might well be the answer to that. Coming from an amateur wrestling background, both Angle and Hart went on to establish themselves as two of the best technicians in wrestling business.

Unfortunately for the fans, the dream match never happened. Bret Hart jumped ships to WCW after the Montreal Screwjob and Angle came into the promotion after that infamous night in Montreal.

Thanks to the grudge that Hart had with Vince McMahon, it took him almost 13 years to step back into the WWE ring and by that time, Kurt was down in TNA, trying to get them on the map.

#3 Sting vs Undertaker

youtube-cover

To be frank, this one might happen this year at WrestleMania if everything goes right. And that everything includes the worst case of Undertakers health. Taker is still feeling the effects of the beating he took at Lesnars hands on WrestleMania 30.

Sting making his debut was always a first step but since he was drawn battle lines with Triple H, the chances are once again narrowed down.

However, if it is to happen, the Taker vs. Sting match is certainly going to be a big draw on any day. Add in some mind games from both men, and the WWE has a great total package in their hands that will be excellent both inside and outside the ring.

#2 The Rock vs Shawn Michaels

youtube-cover

Can you believe that this match never happened? Me neither. Both men were a main stay back in the Attitude Era but never crossed path in between the ropes. This was due to the injury that Michaels suffered back in 1998, which subsequently kept him out till 2002.

Apparently these two men have some real life problems as well. Rock didnt have the best of relationship with Michaels and his Kliq friends so if this match is ever to happen; it has all the chances of turning into a shoot fight.

Another great aspect would be the promos. Rock has stamped his place as the most electrifying superstar in the business while Michaels would have no trouble playing a jerk.

#1 CM Punk vs Steve Austin

youtube-cover

We’ve seen them excel as rebels against their respective authorities but ever wondered how would it be like if these two rebels went against each other? Yeah, you guessed it right, A match between these two would be just……Awesome.

Punk and Austin are two of the most cult personalities that ever wrestled in the WWE squared circles and though there were discussions of a match between the two at some point, nothing really worked out leaving this as a dream scenario.

The microphone work itself would be enough to keep the fans on their seat as Austin and Punk are known for their entertaining promos. With Punk’s exit, the match might not happen after all, but then again, we are wrestling fans and we are dreamers.

What makes Sting special? His first AEW opponent opens up RIGHT HERE.
