Emma Raducanu has landed in Miami ahead of the WTA 1000 tournament. The former US Open champion is already hard at work in the Floridian city as she seeks competitive redemption in the ongoing season.

The Brit recently shared pictures from her practice session at the Hard Rock Stadium ahead of her anticipated participation at the event.

The 20-year-old tennis player will be contesting the Miami Open on the back of a positive run in Indian Wells, where she reached the fourth round before bowing out against World No. 1 Iga Swiatek (6-3, 6-1).

Despite her straight-sets exit to the Pole, Raducanu was commended by many for making significant improvements to her game. She got the better of two seeded players in World No. 19 Magda Linette and World No. 14 Beatriz Haddad Maia en route to the Round of 16 in Tennis Paradise.

Emma Raducanu herself was pleased with her performance in the first event of the Sunshine double.

“To have played and then won three rounds and beaten two amazing opponents, yeah, I'm very proud of myself,” the 2021 US Open champion said in her post-match press conference after the exit.

The player, who has been plagued by injuries and recently withdrew from the ATX Open due to tonsillitis, further revealed that she participated in Indian Wells with little practice. She remarked that contesting competitive matches after numerous setbacks meant a lot to her and she has been enjoying her time on the court regardless of the result.

"Yeah, I think this feeling of competition definitely beats, you know, being sick or injured or out. So I'm really just cherishing every time I get to step out on the match court," she said.
"I mean, this tournament I had so little practice in the last few weeks, that really playing the matches has been a bonus and a win. I'm enjoying competing again," she added.

In what will be a clash of former US Open champions, 2021 winner Emma Raducanu has been drawn against 2019 champion Bianca Andreescu in the opening round of the Miami Open.

The players have met once before on tour – at the 2022 Italian Open. The matchup went in the favor of the Canadian with a score of 6-2, 2-1 (ret.) after Emma Raducanu retired mid-match, owing to a back injury.

The Miami Open face-off promises to be a thrilling encounter as both players try to reestablish themselves on the WTA circuit. It is worth noting that this will be the first time that Andreescu will compete in the tournament after a runner-up finish against Ashleigh Barty in 2021.
